| Hi all, As you rightly said, cooking at home is the most delicious of all though it will not be absolutely professional. Myself being a South Indian Brahmin has the habit of celebrating navratri (after getting married) by arranging what we call "Golu" and we separate the 9 days 3 each for goddess Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati and on the day 10 the Vijayadasami. We used to arrange Kumbham or kalas and decorate it with face of Durga on top and adorn with flowers and do puja every day and evening. In the morning it is our tradition to wear "madisaar" or nine yards and prepare payasam (kheer) different varieties on all the puja days. Sometimes we replace it also with a sweet called puttu or sweet pongal or kalkandu (sugar candy) rice. Tamilians believe Durga matha loves pongal and payasam as it is recited in Lalitha Sahasranamam as "Payasaanap Priya" (one who loves payasam or kheer). It s interesting in the evening to prepare 'sundal' (like chaat with grated coconut made out of various soaked pulses). We use 9 different pulses for 9 days and inturn get good nutrition as well. I do see navratri as a socializing function as it is customary in the evenings to invite our lady friends and little girls and honor them with kumkum, haldi, and flowers. These days its in practice to gift them which suits their age and likes. Wow excellent days to go around shopping and searching for amazing gifts. I enjoy being in Chennai especially the Mylapore area which is quite famous for the navratri gala.. Thanx for reminding of those sweetest days especially of us//.. ![]() Uma |

| Hi All, As per request I would like to share recipe of Rasagulla Ingredients: Cow's Milk 1 Litre Vinegar Sugar 1 KG Water 700 ml Maida Method: Take the milk and boil.Curdle it by using either vinegar. Strain in a muslin cloth and put weight so that excess water drains off. Mash it properly. Make round balls. For making sugar syrup take one kilogram sugar, water and maida. Make the sugar syrup. Put balls in syrup and cook till they come on top and become porous. Serve cold. You can also add rose water if you like. Keep sending if you have any question, Smiles(..), Namita |
