What is the use of duphaston tablet?
Hello,
Iam in TTC for the past 1 year. I consulted a gyno and she told to take blood tests. The results were normal. So she told me to come for follicular study. I went for that from day 9 to day 13. The scan results were also normal as the follicle ruptured on the 13th day. The doctor prescribed me duphaston (10mg) for 2 weeks. When i searched net, i noticed that this tablet is for regularising periods. But i have regular periods. Is there any other usage for this tablet? Can anyone tell me?

Re: What is the use of duphaston tablet?
In short if you are TTc it helps to retain the pregnancy.
"In women, progesterone is responsible for the development of a healthy womb lining (endometrium) that is necessary for pregnancy. The body produces progesterone at certain times of the menstrual cycle, causing the womb lining to flourish. If a fertilized egg does not attach to the womb lining by the end of the monthly menstrual cycle, the levels of progesterone in the body decrease. This causes the body to shed the womb lining (a menstrual ‘period’). If a fertilized egg successfully attaches to the womb lining by the end of the monthly cycle, progesterone levels in the body remain high. This helps maintain a healthy womb lining for the ongoing pregnancy. As dydrogesterone helps regulate the healthy growth and normal shedding of the womb lining, it may be used in the treatment of menstrual disorders such as absent, irregular or painful menstrual periods, infertility, premenstrual syndrome and endometriosis. It may also be used to minimise the overgrowth of the womb lining due to oestrogen (the main female sex hormone) in hormone replacement therapy (HRT) following menopause. By maintaining the womb lining, dydrogesterone is also useful in helping prevent miscarriage (spontaneous abortion) in women who have suffered repeated miscarriages or who may miscarry."

Hi Kamakshi,
I dont mean to be negative....... I took duphaston day 9 to 13 because had a miscarriage 3 months back (no medication) and i conceived on duphaston, but unfortunately it ended in another miscarriage. I guess I can conceive easily but, cant carry the baby....... im going to have tests in my coming cycle....... I just wish that I had done the necessary tests b4!.

Coolheart along with Duphastone. They will give steroid injections(I think so Dihydroxyprogesterone) to avoid contractions & miscarriage.Next time you can check with your gynae.I had bleeding at my 6 weeks & later dr.started me duphastone till 12 weeks & injection once weekly.

Hi cutekid,
Thanks for ur response. I have cysts in ovaries and was told it is pcos. But I have absolutely no symptoms other than these 2 early miscarriages. tests were done for thyroid and sugar- its normal. I conceive the month I try but just cant hold on!. Its been 2 weeks since I had the miscarriage (at 6 weeks). I went to the doc with slight pink spot, so doc gave me susten 200..........still it ended in miscarriage. I have no idea that injections can be taken...... thanks for telling me. I already have a 4 yr old girl and found out abt the cysts only after the 1st miscarriage........but, Drs. never took me so seriously. I am asked to come for tests on my 2nd day of periods. i wonder what tests wud be done.

Re: What is the use of duphaston tablet?
Hi Cutekid,
Bedrest is impossible for me with a 4 yr active girl...........no one can help for the whole 9 months......so i need to hv the next baby to stay strong in me full term!.....
Anyway, I have another news, my bleeding stopped completely and i had unprotected intercourse once (bcos i was under the impression nothing wud happen with once!).......but, for the past 2 days im nauseated, and frequent urination, boobs hurts.......... If u want my dates,
28th march I spotted (i was 5 weeks then) and 4th I had active bleeding and then in a week I was clear..............
we had intercourse on 15th........
i did take a preg test 3 days back in the evening and it was negative......
I know the doc is going to look angry if i go with another pregnancy without the tests being done................
I stay in kilpauk, chennai....... it wud b helpful if u can recommend a good doctor.....
and worried that things to turnout okay.

Re: What is the use of duphaston tablet?
Thank you VLR.. but i have tested twice this week. it is negative.
I heard that Duphaston tablet makes 1-15 days late periods.but i have frequent urination for every 20 mins, stomach cramps and Diarrhea for past three days. i also have sore breast. but after passing urine, if i didn't drink more water, i get stomach ache on lower abdomen.
I consulted doctor. She said i have light urine infection and to intake more water. She told me come on my 2ed or 3rd day, if i get my periods. Or else to do pregnancy test after 1 week.
My questions are
1. Any home remedies for Urine infection?
2. what is PCOS? i don understand wat is it.
3. Why do i called on my 2ed or 3d day of my periods? is it related to PCOS? Because im very embarrassed to do testing on my periods days.
4. Do pregnancy ladies use toilet for 3-4 times in hour?
and I really thank Cutekid. Your answer about duphaston tablet was really helpful and im very clear abt it.
