Question When is the right time to perform a pregnancy test after the missed period?

Hi all,

This is my first post on Indusladies, I would like to know after how many days should I go for a pregnancy test after the missed period. My last period was on Sep 4th & I hav'nt had my periods this month. I also did a HPT on 7th, but the result came negative. I am having lower abdomen pain, mood swings, back pain, change in appetite and tiredness, of which some of it is a symptom of early pregnancy. So my question is should i go with the tests or is it good to wait for some more days & go for a checkup? Please advice.

Hi Nags,
Welcome to Indus Ladies & to this forum.
You can find our forum guidelines here...

Most pregnany devices are sensitive to detect HCG the day you miss your periods. If you have regular periods, try to check HPT again after a week or two. For any results, meet your gynec & clear your doubts.

Stay positive. Relax & eat healthy.

Thanks for the reply. But can I still have hopes even after getting my test result as negative? Is it possible to get accurate result right after your missed periods? Can it be false in the beginning? or the test results are correct?

Hello.

Me too on the same boat. My last period was on September 1st and have mild cramps in my lower abdomen and the bottom of the breast just above the breastbone aches when touched. have'nt taken the HPT yet as i read that it comes back negative most of the time , got a doctor's appt scheduled tommorow. so will know by then.

I also had appendicitis surgery and a cycst was removed from one of my ovaries almost 12 years back, when i had just compeleted my 12th std examinations.

So I am scared as hell thinking that the cyst might have come back . should know something tomorrow

The HPT's can detect the HCG,a harmone produced during pregnancy as early as 3 days before the start of the period. However the results are more accurate when they are done on the day of the missed period.

You can clear your doubts by fixing an appt with the dr.

All the best and Lots of baby dust.

If you get your periods regularly, it's okay to take the HPT the next day. If it's negative, like in your case, you could wait another week & then take another one.

Or else I suggest waiting for at least 40days from the day of your last menses.

All the best!!!

Ani,

Thanks for the reply. As to my periods, only from last 2 months I have been having it regularly, prior to that I was getting my periods every 2 or 1.5 months once. Can this affect the chances of getting pregnant? We have been trying from past 2 months but I got my periods last month....

Nags,

The average cycle length is 28-32 days.Being stressed can delay the periods
sometimes.Meet a gynecologist and get a check up done. It's always good
to get the periods regularised during TTC.
All the best and lots of baby dust.

Its been almost 42 days from the date of my last period, but I have been getting frequent lower abdomen pain especially on the left side these days, is this too a pregnancy symptom? Should I go for a preg. test now?

Hi dear

home test kts are not 100% accurate, best is blood test after 10-14 days of missing period. Must see a gyneac doc asap for pain..this is very imp esp if u have conceived. Drink lot of water, keep ur body cool and relaxed.

You will be fine, all the best & let us know how u are, take care.
