Default Follicle Growth

hai friends,
2 days before met my gyne actually he asked me to come on day 12 to do follicular study.i was really very sad to know that my follicle size is really very small(even after taken clomid).1 follicle in right-8mm and left-4 mm and he told me that 20-24 mm is the normal size of the follicle to release the egg.
one more sad thing that i got to know from him is that the medicines given for follicle growth is not available here in fiji.but he told me that he will try to order it from new zealend.so he asked to try for this month blindly and he asked told me to start with metformin 500. in next cycle he asked me to do hsg along with some blood works to check my hormonal levels after taking metformin.so that in meanwhile he will get the medicines to start my treatment after two cycles.
And also he dint ask me to come again to check whether the follicles are growing or not and i still dont know whether i am ovulating or not.i am really worried praying god atleast this cycle i should get my periods normally without any medicines and to get positive results in hsg and blood works in my next cycle.

friends i have few doubts in this follicle growth
1.do we ovulate if our follicles are really small?

2.have anyone of u faced this problem?

3.what kind of medicines used for follicle growth?

4.is it necessary to go and check my follicle size again this cycle or leave it?

please help me out i am really worried

Hi Aishu...
Don't get tension.... Follicle size of 18mm is fine. But 20+ is considered as very good. 8mm is too small. Even though it Ovulates, its difficult to stick to Uterus during implantation!

Try HSG next cycle & find out whether anything is playing in your body. Blood work & the HSG will help you to know the conditions of your body! People used to say... If problem is found, half the battle won! Rest can be addressed easily!

Everything happening to us is for some reason. We can't know it as we are normal human beings. GOD will have his own plans for us & It will get executed when it right time. Just be patient. Be positive. Trust GOD. Be happy.... Good will knock your door soon!

I am answering your questions below.
1) I am not sure of this one.
2) I will tell you about my friend.... She went to for follicular study for a month.. There was perfect growth naturally & tried IUI. In the next month she did follicular study & there is no dominant follicle found till expected ovulation date! So left the cycle blank! It happens to few women... Have to find the reasons.. For her, she has PCOS...
3) Clomid, Letroz or these kind of tablets or injections can be used for follicular growth! May be dose given to you is very less? How much dose is given to you. Mostly Clomid 50mg, 100mg, 150mg will be prescribed! How much to you?
4) If possible go & check the follicle size once after few days. Confirm whether there are any growth is present or not!
Baby dust to you

Sorry to hear abt youe experience but believe me it is completely normal. with clomid, each cycle will be a hit or miss. in my case I did 3 cycles on clomid - 50 mgs, 100 mgs and 150 mgs, but only ovulated once on the 100 mgs .

oral medications such as clomid give you a 20% chance of ovulation. there is a separate class of medicines called injectibles (fsh injection) that guarantees ovulation 99% of the time. but it is more expensive and requires daily monitoring. you can try that. in my case clomid was a total washout and put me into depression. but then I did one injectibles cycle combined with an iui and am now the proud mother of an extremely naughty 1 year old

try reducing carbs in your diet, eat atleast 75 gms of protein per day and also walk 10-15 minutes after each meal. this works better than taking metformin.

good luck!

hi aishu,

The same thing happened to me. This was the first cycle for me with clomid and I took 100mg. But in the follicular study on 11th day scan, there was no development in the follicles, then they again confirmed on CD 14 scan that there are no big follicles.
This cycle doctor increased the dose of clomid to 150mg CD5-9.
She said they will see if i get any follicles this time, if not they will talk about other options.
So dont be stressed about this, as pmahensa said I think this is normal. Clomid is effective only on some women, for others there are other options.
Pmahensa, usually after clomid, do they go directly to injectables or are there other options which they recommend?

Sunshine

depends on your clinic sunshine. you can try another drug called femara. my friend did 6 cycles of clomid, no ovulation on dose as high as 250 but then got pregnant on her first femara cycle. but not all clinics use femara as there was some study done which showed an increased risk of deformaties with it's use. incase clomid is not working for you, then the next thing is injectibles. it is so damn expensive if your insurance is not covering it that I insisted on an IUI to give me the maximum chance of pregnancy. fortunately it worked. but if injectibles/iui dont do the trick for you, then it is time to move to ivf.
