Unhappy Hsg

hi

on thursday i had an appointment with my infertility expert. two months back i underwent heteroscopy and laproscopy and was diagnosed with a fibroid and both tubes as being blocked. Drowningwhile the fibroid was said to be on no harm what so every but due to tubal blockage i was given the option of IVF. since it is the last resort possible i am a bit relectent to go for it after just two years of marriage. guess am waiting for a miracle.
for second opinion i went to another doctor in the same infertility clinic, she too ruled out that fibroid is on any concern but was not convinved about my tubes being blocked. i showed her the video of my operative procedure which the clinic had provided and she said every thing is perfect and its had to believe that tubes are blocked and that i should go for HSG before going for IVF.
as per her statment there is a slight chance in HSG that blocked tubes are opened. This is so? has any one of you undergone this test? is it painful?
am thinking of going for this test in hope that IVF could be avoided . should I wait or go for IVF with out wasting maore time am 29 yrs old.pls advice.

Smile Re: Hsg

Hi,

First of all, all the best for ur TTC period.

Reg HSG, I had it done in september and december 2008. The procedure is painful. But the pain is definitely tolerable. I had been given some medicine and one injection before the procedure. But I have heard if the pain is unbearable, you can tell the doctor and they will do it after giving anaesthesia.

About me... Unexplained Infertility. I have been TTC for 2 yrs and am going for third IUI this month.
Planning to go for 6 IUIs back to back and then plan for next...

Take care,
Bye,
Swati

Post Re: Hsg

Hi hoping4best,
I have undergone Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) almost 10 months back. Found have one tube block in that. For me the block remains the same(i hope!).

HSG is used to check the tube block condition & uterus condition. People say there are little chances that the tube block get cleared in HSG. Please read the attachment for primary info on HSG.

Yes! You will experience some pain, may be for a day it will last. Cooperate the people doing it & relax during the procedure to finish it fast.

HSG will be done before ovulation. Most gynec will not ask to try that month as there are chances for the foreign particle to stay inside uterus. So eventually, you will miss that cycle. I am not sure why gynec prescribe HSG after Laparoscopy.

Its a ultrasound they do to check if you have any cysts and follicles from your prev period to ensure your hsg is accurate. Thats it...Nothing to worry about.

They will insert a small vaginal probe and check. it will not even be the least painful.

Sudha..Also ensure that you don't drive there by yourself cos you will have to endure some bit of pain after the hsg and it will be difficult for you to drive. I did the mistake of driving on my own and it was a mess.

Hey Vidhya and Sudha..

HSG is an Xray procedure.. where a dye is introduced into the body through the vagina . The reason they take this is to check wether you have any blocks in your fallopian tubes.. The dye that is injected will spill over to the ovaries which if evident in the pictures a physician would take then it means no block.. else otherwise.

When the dye moves in , you will have some cramps and that is about it.. Nothing else to worry.

I got this done last year when I went for my routine follow up for the PCOD.. Surprisingly, my cysts had gone missing since I got married ! :) So, am happy girl now !!
