Our piligrimage to Karuvalarcheri

    Hi all and Saras,
    Myself and my DH went to karuvalarcheri and thirukarugavur temples last weekend. We could go to both temples on same day... It was a amavasai day coincidentally and hence auspiscious..

    First we have to reach Chennai. Then take a bus or train appriximately 8 hours travel to kumbakonam.. We took a overnight bus journey to reach kumbakonam at 7:00 am on saturday (27/12/08)

    First Karuvalarcheri.

    U can hire a cab to both places. But we preferred to take bus as we wanted to take our own time at temples..

    Take a mannargudi bus from kumbakonam bus stop and get down at marudannlur -- it just 10 min from kumbakonam. Then take an auto to the temple (25rs one way or 50rs round trip). Karuvalarcheri is a small village so there is only one shop selling the required items.

    Since I had the list with me purchased the following items previous day itself:

    7- 10 round manjal kizhangu (turmeric pods)
    100 gms cow ghee
    Lemons -2 or 4
    vethalai, seeval, camphor, oodbhathi, pushpam, pakku, coconut, bananas - half dozen.

    So the pujari immediately performed archanai to ambal and gave some cow ghee to apply on padi and I put kolams and kept 3 1re coins on each kolam... and prayed to ambal. Then pujari prayed with turmeric and lemon and gave it to me on my sari pallu...that's it prayed to God Agathiswarar in the same temple and came back in auto.. and reached kumbakonam.
    This temple is open throughout the day...Whereas thirukarugavur is govt temple and is open till 12:30pm and again from 4:30 - 8:30pm..

    For thirukarugavur take thanjavur bus or route no 11, 29... and rest all pujais as told by pujari...

    We are happy that we could make it to the temple this year itself...

    Hope this is helpful to others who wish to visit the temples...

    Its great that you could visit both the temples on the same day. Had I known that you were going, I could have asked you to perform the Puja for me too!!!!

    if anybody is planning to visit these places in the future, do let me know

    kashvya, it was a sudden plan... eppadiyo poitu vandutom...

    u two seem to be in chennai if i am not wrong... it easier then as temples in TN itself...

    Hi Hema,

    Thanks a lot for sharing this information on the both the temples and remembering my request.
    I am glad that you went this year to both the temples. Aap ki manokamna poori hojaye...:thumbsup
    My dad also went to these 2 temples for me last week.

    I am planning to visit both of them when i go to India.
    One doubt please. What do you do with the Lemon prasad???

    Do we keep this in our pooja???

    The pujari gives you back one lemon. This you have to squeeze and add salt n sugar and both u and your husband can drink it....

    Karuvalarcheri amman Temple address

    plz can someone give me the exact address of the Karuvalarcheri Amman Temple, so that I can ask my parents to go there.
    I would like to have the exact address as they are planning to drive (like the street, district etc.)
    hope some one will be able to help me.

    left over turmeric from karuvalacheri amman temple

    hi what do i do with the left over turmeric from karuvalarcheri amman koil. pls someone clarify my doubt.
