    Hi,

I am having Type 2 Diabetes and I am planning to Conceive.
I am overweight by 20 pounds. I have been on diet and doing exercises daily ( Yoga, Walking -1 hr ).
Since my sugar levels are high the doctor asked me to take Insulin daily.

I am strict vegetarian. I wont take Egg also.
So could some one suggest me good Indian Vegetarian diet for weight loss and diabetes?
I stopped taking rice completely due to increase in sugar levels.

Below is the diet which I am following currently:

Before break fast : 2 glass water, Fenugreek powder 1 tbsp.
Breakfast – 1 cup Mix vegetables or Vegetable soup. 2 spoons peanuts (soaked in water ), some times 2 idlis.
Snack – 2 Carrots, ½ cup Broccoli, beans
Lunch – 1 Cup cracked wheat , Dal, yogurt, small fruit.

Snack - Any fruits( Apple, Pears, grape fruit, Cantaloupe), some time cup of Tea ( with splenda).
    Dinner - Similar to Lunch
    Pre-Bed Snack - 1 cup of milk and/or fruit

I doubt may be I have PCO . Yet to Diagnose.
Please suggest more protein and less carb Indian food.
I am really worried what to eat .how to reduce my weight.
    :crazy

    Thanks,
    Vasuk

I would suggest adding in vegetarian sources of protein to your diet at every meal. the key to controlling sugar is to try and eat equal amounts of protein and carbs at each meal, which I did when I had gestational diabetes. Eating more protein than carbs will also help you lose weight faster. Add in excercise and you will definitely loose weight and also control your sugars.

Breakfast Ideas - Soy Burgers with a slice of cheese, Quick Cook Oatmeal with low sugar soymilk, protein shakes, high fiber/protein bread with almond butter, special k high protein cereal with low sugar soymilk (I use westsoy low sugar vanilla flavor soymilk)

Snacks - Fruit(apple, pear etc) with string cheese, poha with cheese melted added in, protein shakes, cup of buttermilk, moong sprouts, cup of soymilk

Lunch/Dinner - Sprouted beans curry, soy nutrella curry, paneer curry,
meatless meatballs (made from soy, found at trader's joe).

    Good Luck!

    Hi,

If you have diabetes then you should start walking. Your diet looks good to me, probably after few days you might need to add more variations of food.

Exercise will take away almost all your problems, diabetes will be controlled for sure. Start by investing little time and gradually increase your strength and training time.

dear, i need to reduce more the 20kgs so i go for strict/serious diet. I got this diet plan from a qualified dietition and again checked with my gyne.

since u just need to reduce 4-5kg, i suggest u take light foods like fruits or soups for dinner and do brisk walking for 30-45 days daily... i'm sure u will see the result very fast...

now i have stop my strict diet... i hv started taking normal meals now but i dont eat rice till now. at nite, i either take soups or fruits..
sometimes i lazy or tired to cook at nite (ihubby buy food outside... i'm bad wife),
so i just drink oat cereal for dinner !
i also do light exercise/yoga.. i m reducing 1-1.5 kgs in every two weeks now.

hope above mention tips will help u dear !
take care & Good luck !
