It all depends on how big and how many fibroids are present in the uterus. The doctor knows best. The reason they say fibroids effect fertility is bcoz if there are too many or too big, it cud prevent implantation and successful growth of the embryo. I beleive they are removed with surgery.

We have been TTC for the last 6 months. I have a 1 cm fibroid in my uterus, but it is way up in one corner and the doctor says it should not affect getting pregnant at all. I have regular cycles & my husband was tested to be ok but still it is taking us time.

Pray to God. and be positive. Good Luck!

    Hi Bhanvi

I have multiple fibroids in my uterus and i didn't know that it existed, I conceived normally and delivered a very beautiful girl baby, i was worried when it was diagonised, but my Gyneac did not suggest to remove as it wasn't causing any hindrance to the baby and the fibroids were in posterior wall of the uterus, i had a c-section delivery, and even after delivery my Gynac refused to remove the fibroids as it is not causing any uneasiness to me (i've regular periods), most of the fibroids gets shrunk by it's own, and most of them are harmless , my gyanc doesn't beleive in unnecessary surgery and told that if at all i've pain which is unctrollable the we may think of removing the fibroids, by God's grace i am ok , so DON'T WORRY ,

Normal conception is still possible if you have fibroids depending on the place of the fibroids, a small suggestion, why don't you ask your s-in law to go for a second opinion reg this? And then decide....

    God Bless U!!!!

    Hi Bhanvi,

I dont have personal experience with fibroid but a cousin of mine had it in her uterus. She dint know abt it at all and was having regular periods. She conceived as soon as they tried and it was only when they went for their USG that she was told that it existed. Initially there was a little concern as to whether the fibroid will also grow along with the foetus. So, she had to go for weekly check ups till the first trimester. But then they assured her that everything was normal and it wasnt much of a problem. She delivered a beautiful girl completing full term. I think the extent of its effect depends on the size and place of the fibroid. If it can be dangerous for the baby, then they ll prefer removing it.

My wishes and prayers for ur SIL to conceive early

    Asha

    Dear Bhanvi

I recently underwent a laproscopic surgery for removal of uterine fibroids, as my gyn told it would cause hindrance to baby's growth.Uterine fibroids can be left to shrink on their own, if they are in harmless positions.

When I met Dr.Gita Arjun, she told more than 50% of fertile ladies have fibroids. Most are harmless. She tols, if she is to remove all thos fibroids, she would be in OT all 24hrs.

Don't fight a faceless enemy outta anxiety...All the best

    Dear Ridge,

Hi..I am a new member of this site. And I face the same problem of fibroids. An ultrasound revealed that I have a large fibroid (8 cm in diameter) inside my uterine cavity. My GP said it may have to be removed given the size and location of the fibroid. She has referred me to a specialist.

Here in Australia, it takes 1 or 2 months to get an appointment with a specialist. I am still waiting for my appt date. I am worried about the operation as I do not want it to affect my fertility in future.

Please let me know if you were able to conceive without any problems after the surgery and how long did it take you to conceive. Is it a must to undergo a C-section delivery after fibroid removal? It does not make a difference to me but I would like to know your experience.

My husband and I are disappointed as we were not expecting to face any problems with conceiving.

If there are any gynaecologists reading this post, please let me know your opinion also.

    Regards,
    Aussiegirl

    Hi,

According to my gynac trying to conceive with fibroids is not a problem. This depends on the size and location of the fibroid.I have 2.6cm fibroid. My doc said it wnt cause any harm.
I had miscarriage last week at 8 weeks. This was missed miscarriage.I asked Dr the reason n Is fibroid the reason of my miscarriage. She assured its nt the reason. She has asked to come with scan report in the next week n we can discuss other things later.
Dnt worry too much. Its your dr who will be in the best position to take correct decision.

    Hi Aussiegirl,

Do not worry about the surgery for the removal of a fibroid and the fertility issues it might create. I had a big fibroid about 6 cm. As docs suggested, I did try to concieve for atleast 3 years... but nothing came through. Then I had laprotomy done (it is similar to C-section) and after this I had be be on bed rest for about a month. After the surgery, one should wait for about 10 months to an year before resuming trials. I have had no problem with conception later. But, for other unknown reasons, I lost my first baby after completeing full term of 9 months. The 2nd time, I had a twin pregnancy. I have 2 kids now who are close to 2 years. Mine was a C-section due to twin pregnancy and due to previous surgery. Docs usually do not go for normal delivery in such cases because of the previous surgery. However well the healing of the uterus would have happened, the place of the surgery will still be weak compared to the untouched area. The pushing in normal delivery might cause problems in such cases to both the mother and the baby. So, best advice in such cases is C-section.

Just one thing before I forget, the surgery of the fibroid should be handled by a very good surgeon as the scraping out should be done properly so that there are no implantation problem when you concieve.

Thanks srividhyapathy9 and krk for your replies.

I am a bit worried about the surgery. But I feel a lot better after reading your reply krk. The problem in my case is that I am 35 years old and my husband is in his early forties. We had a late marriage. So we would not like to wait for a long time to have a baby. I have an appointment with a specialist soon and I feel the doctor may also suggest that we opt for surgery right away due to our age.

I am not really worried about the c-section. All my friends who have had c-sections did recover well and had no problems at all.

I am considering going to India for surgery. Krk, if you don't mind can you let me know where you had the surgery done?

    Thanks,
    Aussiegirl
