I am 34 yeas old and trying to conceive through IVF as my tubes were damaged due to Endometriosis. Early this year my first IVF cycle failed. Doctor suggested to remove the tubes. We underwent the procedure and took few months break before going for the 2nd IVF cycle.

Yesterday, my 2nd IVF cycle also failed. Needless to say, how I feel. I am trying to analyze what went wrong. I adhered to all the instructions that were provided by the doctor and took all the precaution.

During first ivf cycle only 4 eggs were retrieved and only one could make it. We had a one good quality embryo.

During the second ivf cycle 12 eggs retrieved, but only two could make it. Those two eggs fertilized in a good quality embryos.

    - I am wondering why I had only 4 and 12 eggs. Is there a way I can increase the number of eggs?
Also, out of 12 why only two could make it. Why am I not producing good quality egg. Is there a way I can improve my quality of my eggs?
    - Should my husband again go for the sperm quality check?
    - If embryos were of good quality why doctors did not do 5 day transfer? Also, if embryos are of good quality that why they not implant?
    - Should I go for hysterscopy to check if I suffer from Intrauterine adhesions or have any other issues with uterus?
    - Should climbing stairs and driving be completely avoided during two week wait period?

Before going for the third IVF,I want to understand why embryo did not implant. When I did everything doctor asked me to do and it did not work, I dont see any reason why third time will be successful.

Is there anyone sailing in the same boat as I am.. I hope not but if someone is going through the same situation or has any information, please share..

During my two week wait period I offered archana online and ordered ghee from garbarakshambigai temple, hoping I will have God's blessings. I have not received ghee yet. I am trying not to lose hope, but it is very hard to hold up....

    HI Maithali,
Sorry about the negative results. Hope you will be able to come out of the frustrations & medicine effects in your body soon! I am sailing in the same boat as yours. I have one failed IVF & one frozen cycle failure. The doc couldn't give any answer on why those good embryos couldn't make it! The doctors don't have control over everything in our body! Beyond their control, some other things has to happen which should make the implantation happen!

Have you met your doc after the negative results? What they say? Whats their approach? What is their suggestions to the next attempt?

Let me try to answer your questions...
    > People say with age egg quality decreases. One tend to produce less number of follicles at higher age compared to the people in 20's. But many who is more than 35 conceived with single embryo too! May be matter of time!

    > Semen analysis can be done anytime to clear your dobts. If you really needed to have a check over it, go ahead before the third one!

    > 5th day transfer is good in IVF world, but many 3rd transfers survived to a healthy pregnancy.

    > Hysteroscopy, check with your gynec. Its good to go by their advice. But tubes have been removed right!

    > You can try avoiding climbing stairs & driving. In the hospital where i did IVF, they asked for complete bed rest. Only mild walking, mild works are allowed. I am not sure everywhere people asks for the same thing!

I have seen in some infertility forums, people talk about 4, 5th IVFs. They succeed after these many attempts too!
Hope all these confusions comes to any end & you see light at the end of the tunnel soon!
    Baby dust to you.

Huge hugs to you Maithali, hope u and DH r being good to yourselves. Am not an active poster but had to reply to ur post. Exactly 2 yrs ago today we got our positive result and now we have a gorgeous 15 month old. Have faith Maithali it will work for u. Just a quick reply and will write in more detail tomow.

Dont go by the number of eggs, 12 sounds perfect ... the quality is what counts. I know of a girl who had only 1 egg n went on to have a healthy baby and 1 healthy embryo is all u need. I had 22 eggs of which 18 fertilised and 17 were of good quality but due to the number of eggs it led to OHSS and had to be drained thrice which meant I didnt have a fresh transfer. Of the 17 only 2 went on to become blasts and it resulted in our darling lil boy. So quantity doent really count. R u taking prenatal vits, something like Pregnacare. There is a spl one to aid conception.

If ur DH has never had his sperms tested then u definitely shd go for it. Our Infertility is cause of the male factor and we did ICSI rather than IVF, so u cud talk to ur doc n see if ICSI will be better suited for you.

Sometimes u can do everything right and everything can appear to b great but still it may not work, its just not meant to be, it sucks but its part of the infertility cycle. A girl i know had a successful first IVF and now is trying for second baby, has had 2 failed IVF cycles and 1 failed frozen cycle. Y its not working for her now is still a mystery.

Am not sure where u are located, try to find out if there is a forum where girls attending the same clinic as u r posting. A forum like that was my lifeline during our dark days. IT helps to compare wat treatment the clinic is offering to wat kind of problems and wat lil extra things brings on a positive cycle. It will give u idea of wat meds n dosage the others r on. Wat the differnt clinics do in different countries vary a lot so u will benefit if u can talk to people attending the same clinic as you.

Dont give up hope, there is always a way. A few tips or ideas

Have u tried accupunture wen u did ur IVF cycle, if not try to find out an accuounturist specialising in infertility, it is supposed to help. My DH did a course of treatments and I started it a few weeks b4 we started the cycle. U do it b4 and after the transfer aswell.

Some girls I know were given viagra as part of meds and that cycle worked for them, u cud google for how it helps n for more info and if u think it is applicable to ur condition u cud ask ur doc abt it.

Have u heard of Zita West, google her n buy her cd online if u can. It really helps to relax and visualise and think positive.

This is a silly one but i might aswell say it, orange is the colour of fertility I have heard so during the TWW i Had bought an orange t shirt and put it on my teddy and had it with me, silly i know but i wanted everybit of luck on my side :)

U dnt have to avoid the steps, it is upto u really. But vaccuming and lifting heavy weights is a no no. At the end of the day dnt do anything which u might regret or blame on, God forbid, if a cycle fails.

Take care Maithali, I will write more if i think of anything useful.

    Dear Maithali,

Lots of hugs to you dear.. I really feel for you. I know how it is to go through failed cycles one after the other.

Mum2b has given excellent advice and some ideas are worth trying. And thanks to her that I remembered a few more details of what I did for my IVF cycle.

    - About egg quantity - don't worry too much. I had very few eggs retrieved (3 total - all fertilized, but 2 only made it through day 3 and day 5.. you can read more details in "My Story" thread in this forum, so will skip all that.). My doc had prescribed an additional injection for few days before retrieval, which is supposed to improve the egg quality. I think that helped. Checked with your doctor if any additional medication can be prescribed for improving egg quality.

    - Yes - I was prescribed a viagra equivalent, to insert vaginally & a powder to take with water everyday. This is supposed to improve the blood circulation, which is supposed to assist in improving result.

    - I was checked for blood flow in all uterine zones. Since for my IVF cycle, they found out that one zone had less or missing bloodflow, they put me on heparin injection for thinning the blood. I had to take them for 3.5 months (1 injection daily) - complete first trimester. Because of this injection, I had to keep checking my bood count to ensure that I don't have the threat of internal bleeding. I did well with my blood count thankfully.

    - As a home remedy, I used to eat soaked black raisins (manuka). These are soaked overnight and you have eat by biting its seeds while eating. This is supposed to assist in implantation. You can take 3-4 per day - soaked overnight.

    - As a regular practice, even otherwise, I used to eat 1 almond soaked overnight and 1 dried fig - soaked overnight. For soaked almond - peel off its cover and eat.

    - During the whole cycle, I kept healthy food habits. Carrots, cucumber and beet root salad with little salt and lemon - was a part of my daily diet. It just helps with lots of vitamins and iron. And ofcourse all the fibre helps in keeping your system clean.

    - I have an old habit of drinking 1 glass of water - first thing in the morning - before even rinsing my mouth. Its said taking in the juices - created overnight in the mouth - helps in bowel movement. And boy - it does.

    - I was exercising regularly - just a morning walk - not more. Sudarshan kriya (AOL) and meditation (before the transfer. No Sudarshan kriya / exercise / stomach exercises after transfer)

About SA - only few good sperms is required for IVF and only 1 good one for ICSI. No harm in doing the analysis again.

In your case, fertilization doesn't seem to be a problem, coz its getting fertilized. But implantation seems to be an issue.

    - I have heard that they collect the uterine lining culture to diagnose its quality and receptability to the egg. I'm not sure what it is called, but is it done in your case?

    - Have you been checked for thyroid and other harmones? It seems the fertilized egg shell - if its too thick, may affect implantation.

I'm just trying to give you some clues to check with your doctor, so that you can increase the predictability.

Don't lose hope. Most important is to keep faith.

Hello everyone, hope u r keeping well . Am glad if i can be of any help, as i can very wekk remember the all consuming n overwhelming feeling of helplessness and why me? thoughts. Keep courage girls !

Rajalakshmi, sorry to dissapoint u dear may no be writing a very detailed post today. If u r looking for any specific info, write abt them and I will share any info or experiences I may have had.

Infinitehopes, u have a very healthy lifestyle I must say :). Good on u girl!
Another diet tip during infertility treatments is Eating plenty of protein. I've also heard eating fresh pineapple is good for implantation but in India pineapple is a Big no no due to heat, so i havnt tried myself.

    Sweety25 ..
when exactly we should start taking these sessions?
-Im not entirely sure as it may depend on the type of fertility issue and an experienced fertility specialised accupunturist might be the best person the say that. But as a rough guide i wud say mayb 3 months for anything new to set in the body. Especially if u have a male factor infertility then fresh sperms will take abt 3 months to b produced, if im not mistaken.

total how many we should take?
    - Both DH n I had a session a week. DH had for mayb 3 or 4 months and I had abt 4 sessions b4 starting treament that is stimming n stuff like that. It is good if u take one session b4 transfer and one after aswell. After that it is straight home with feet up and lots of positive thinking and visualisation.

Hi Vasu, hope ur baby dreams come true soon. I was reading in another thread u experiencing spotting. Do u know if u ovulated and did u guys have a go this month? Cud it be implantation bleed? Im sorry if im upsetting u in anyway by suggesting this as Im not aware of ur full TTC journey and dunno if it this is a possibility. Will definitely try to post as much as i can.

Maithali how r u keeping dear? I was thinking of wat else my help u... At any point did ur clinic seem unhappy abt ur lining? Am just trying to reason wat might affect implantation.

Dunno if any of u came across this today: a 51 yr old Delhi woman has given birth to twin babies after 23 yrs of marriage!! If a 51 yr old can conceive with IVF 34 and other ages are nothing compared to that. Chin up girls!!
