What is "Friends and Contacts" added to profile page?

My first new thread ever in IL.

It said "only dumb questions allowed", so am asking this:

I have received a "notification" that another IL member wants to be my "friend". What does "friend" mean here?

Also, another question, down the line if I become eligible to get the "PM" feature, do the private messages come here at IL, or do they go to the yahoo/gmail/etc. email with which I registered?

Congrats on your first thread in IL . Hope to see many more following it.

At the outset, tell me clarify that this thread should have been put in FAQs. Well, we will move it there in a couple of days.

Regarding your first question about "Friend's " Request...kindly refer to Forum Upgraded - New Features!. It will clear your doubts.

And as and when you complete your 50 posts....you become a "Junior Ilite". You will have the access of PM.. only here in IL.

(If option 'Receive email notification of new private messages' is ticked(i.e. checked), you will receive emails whenever someone sends you a private message.)

I thought FAQs was static set of questions, and didn't realize new questions can/should be asked there. ;(
