Microdermabrasion

Hi IL,

I had sever Acne problem. Now after having constant medication, it has come down completely, but has left scars. I consulted my doctor, who told me to undergo a treatment called Microdermabrasion. With a bit of googling, I understand this is skin refreshing technique, that removes/repairs the outer stratum of the skin. Away from these medical terms, does anyone have any personal experince or knowledge about this treatment.

My doctor recommended a dermatologist who charges Rs.2500 per sitting, and has told about 3 sittings for me. Is it worth the money too?

Good to know that u have got rid of ur acne....i m sure it must have done loadz of good to ur self confidence.....i also suffered a lot due to acne for close to 10 years but today i have also managed to control....as it is with everyone, scars were left behind after acne cleared.....i took AHA peels and Microdermabrasion and after only 3 sitting, there was a marked improvement in my skin texture and the scars has lightened up a bit.....my dermatologist had recommended 6 sitting and i have juss finished with my 4th.....the procedure is pretty simple and doesnt take more than 20 mins for a sitting...the skin does feel little red for a day or so but that can be handles with aleovera gel or lactocalamine lotion(doc recommended)....u must give it a try BUT i was lil surprised with the amount of money ur doc is asking...mine cost me juss Rs 600 per sitting.......dunno why ur doc is asking that kind of money?...plz check wid few other docs or u can even try Kaya if they have a branch close to you......Best of Luck.......cheenu

I was getting bit worried now, after almost 50 views, there are no responses. I enquired in Kaya. There, they recomennded a package costing up to 8000 Rs. That had included suncreen, lotions etc. I am still confused as what I shoud do. Finding out from other doctors also though. Is the rate per sitting decided on the severity of the scars?

My scars are light, and are completely invisible if from a distance of about 10 meters. In just about two places, there are slightly dark brown pigments.

I am also wonderign why it is so expensive.

i can very well understd ur concern.....its never easy to shell out loadz of money on sumthing u dont even know is gonna work for u...trust me i was as lost and confused as are u.....BUT sweety unless u take the plunge u wont know what it has in store for u....lemme first tell u that microdermabrasion is a very safe procedure, if u wont get good results(which i doubt), u wont end up on the wrong side either.....MUST TRY ONE SITTING,U WILL FIND THE DIFFERENCE:)....second the money part....Kaya is pretty expensive, no question abt that....local doctors(dermatologist) are a better bet.....i am sure ur city would have good number of dermatologists..all u gotto do is look around and see which one is for u...Rs2500 is a lot of money.....i think ideally u sudnt be paying more than Rs1000 per sitting..thats the limit...pick up the yellow pages directory and make a list of dermatologists and check them out....PLZ stay away from beauty parlours doing derma...they are useless.......hope u find a good dermatologist sooon.....good luck....keep me posted abt how it goes:)

Thanks Cheenu. I really suffered a lot during my college days. It used to be such a bad morale to present things, to talk in seminars, in fact to dress up properly. But it is in my genes, and cant really avoid it. So, thats when I went to this dermatologist. He gave me medicines for 15 days, and within 15 days all my pipmles vanished. There are only marks left. And thts when he quoted this price. I know, it is necessary to take the plunge, but I dont want to invest/spend something that may not be worth so much. It can even be Rs.2500 but what I am worried is, Am I paying too much for the worth?

I am trying with other derma's. Hope someone turns up soon. Will surely keep you all posted.
