I made Khoya yesterday using my pressure cooker (5 hrs) as that is the hard bottomed vessel I have got, now I am fainting seeing the stains. Its so hard from bottom to all sides. I see some threads for usual cleaning tips of adding tamarind/lemon everyday etc, but I need to completely clean the mess I created and only then I can use it for cooking today :bowdown

There are some with vinegar/B.soda, but same time there are comments like vinegar is not so advisable.. Pls pour in suggestions..

I will have to clean and then start cooking :bonk

Hey Ladies (and Gentlemen, too, if any):

What is your cleaning routine? My routine is like this:

Daily: All rooms of the house - quick clean (15 mins each). Mail is either filed away or shredded (most bills and other notices are received and processed online to keep down the clutter). Junk mail is shredded (if it is personally addressed to us) or tossed (if addressed to Resident, etc) on a daily basis.

Weekly: Laundry, Fridge & bathrooms (including bath tub).

Monthly: De-clutter all the closets, the cars, my purses, DH's laptop bag, DD's school bag, the fridge and the pantry.

I am finding that this routine is inadequate. I still have tons of stuff that collect (even if I'm de-cluttering actively and avoiding buying anything that I do not need). The biggest areas that I'm having trouble with is the pantry and the paperwork, most of which are DD's art-projects from school. I have a hard time tossing her art work out and they quickly overflow and take over - not just her room, but also - the entire house! Am I being too sentimental?

Also, how do you all keep your pantry and the fridge de-cluttered and the paper monster under control?

Thanks for sharing.

Hi all,

Starting this thread in response to another thread http://www.indusladies.com/forums/me...tml#post916734

For those of us that have to unload and load dishwashers on a daily basis, wanted to discuss how to minimize the time taken to do so. It takes me a maximum of 11 minutes on a daily basis to unload/load the dishwasher. Here are my tips:

Use implements that make organizing of utensils easier:

Mug/cup stand (for example, Amazon.com: Pomerantz Oak Mug Tree: Home & Garden)

Utensil jar for spatulas etc.. (for example Amazon.com: BIA Cordon Bleu 64-Ounce Utensil Crock, White: Home & Garden)

Organizer for spoons, kinves and forks (for example,Amazon.com: BAMBOO cutlery SILVERWARE sectioned utensil TRAY kitchen drawer organizer: Home & Garden)

Shelving unit for plates (for example, Amazon.com: 2 Shelf Cabinet Organizer (White) (8 1/2"H x 17 1/4"L x 8 1/2"W): Home & Garden)

Pot lid organizer ( for example, http://www.amazon.com/Grayline-Cabinet-Dorr-Lid-Rack/dp/B002HRJPC8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1256523890&sr=1-2)

When loading the dishwasher, arrange utensils in the dishwasher so that similar ones are closer to each other. For example, keep the cups closer to each other, saucers close each other.

When unloading, pick out similar objects that that go in the same region in the kitchen so in each unload step you are tackling multiples of similar objects.

Hope this helps.

Here is a tip that I learned many years ago and it really works. If you have a ceramic teapot (or other ceramic item) that has a crack in the bottom but not broken through (might be slightly leaking), it is very easy to repair. Fill the item with enough milk to cover the crack and then enough so it doesn't dry out during this process. Place it in a warm place for about a week letting the milk go really really sour. The casein from the milk will fill the crack like a glue (casein is used in glue making) and it will get sealed. At the end of the week just clean the vessel well.
