I have a servant maid working for me for the past eight months. She does my household works(like cleaning the vessels, wiping the floor) neatly, and I don't prefer to loose her because getting a good maid like her is difficult in my place. But unfortunately now and then some items(like a big cadbury candy bar, umbrella etc..) are missing from my house. Now the latest is my apple ipod's headphone which was on my computer table. I suspect the maid. Most of the time I watch her, talking very casually . But it is impossible to do it all the time. I never asked her anything about it. Now I want to know how much you people are bothered about society and what "others" think of you? Now, by the meaning of "others", I mean anyone beside you. it can be your family, spouse, parents, in-laws etc etc.
Well, for me- I have a core zone which includes my parents and hubby! For these people I really try to convince them if I want to behave differently that might hurt them...perhaps only hubby is in my core! I do not care what "others" think! But when I try to be really different, it is really hard! I am sometimes worried about confronattion, i guess! :drowning
For instance, I do not like to wear bindi and bangles. But when my in-laws are here...I try my level best to be indifferent and to all those neighboring ladies, but you know its very hard and I am almost always on the edge! This is just one simple example...there are many more in my life! like, I prefer western clothes, but as my MIL says "samaj ke liye kabhi kabhi saree bhi pehno"...so that leaves me wondering, how do my dear ilites behave?

It was then that near Jaynagar in one of the busiest junctions a bus brushed our car with the rear end. I was shocked. I knew something broke. I got down and checked. Luckily it was only a side light. The Driver stopped the car and a heated argument with the bus driver went on for over 5 minutes. I paid no attention to it but was only thanking God for saving me. I thought ‘thalaikku vandathu thalai pagaiyoda pochu’!! Fortunately nothing happened after that.:bowdown

so... the thing is into various situations people get into arguments and fights and we often use some words by default... they might be wrong but we are used to it and may be dont take the meaning of these verbatim basis......

in a fight if someone uses the phrase "go to hell... or.... all of you go to hell"..... what do you think this should be taken as!!!! should it be right to take the meaning of it that - the one uses it means to curse the other that he/she should indeed go to hell and the one using thinks so evil for him/her and for everyone its said about???

Now the caste part is not important here, but let me tell you the incident which made me feel very low.

I have very good neighbours though not very close we share a cordial relationship, we greet each other with a smile,ask a few formal questions sometime chat for 10-20 mins , invite each other for pooja's and family functions, this is how are relationship are.

But yesterdays incident really put me off, my opp next house stays a couple with their mother, the older lady is very friendly and she accompanies me to yoga classes sometimes even on evening walks, the younger lady is a soft ware prof. and smiles and talks to me very sweetly and they had grand homa yesterday in their house and everyone was invited for the pooja and lunch except us, (dont know why ) this is the second time they are doing, even for the kids naming cermony we were missed out, that time I just consoled myself because we were out of station and just returned the previous day, but still if they really wanted to invite us they could have because we stay just a few yards away.
But yesterday we were deliberately avoided, Okay if they had invited only brahmins but they invited my immediate neighbour who is a NB, but when I met today, they spoke sweetly even not showing any regret that they missed us inviting for their function.

This incident may be lil silly but I feel so bad and insulted. I have heard my grandma telling many a times not to get a hair cut on tuesdays and have noticed that most salons in india are closed on the same day , for what so ever reason's. One explanation i came across is that, it gives a day for Murugan followers(since tue is auspicious day for murugan swamy) to a satvik lifyle adhering to certain rules like eating vegeterian food,following brahmacharya , avoiding liquor, cutting nail/hair etc.

Also, came across this cute rhyme in another site - globalphysics.

Cut them on Monday, you cut them for health;
cut them on Tuesday, you cut them for wealth;
cut them on Wednesday, you cut them for news;
cut them on Thursday, a new pair of shoes;
