Hello All,

I wanted to find out how each of you deal with the pressure of having to eat out.

My husband and I get calls every weekend esp fri and sat to dine out with our common friends. While my husband burns calories just by breathing i have put on so much weight. I am exercising and maintaining a strict diet. But i get so irritated when friends call to go out for dinner.

I can be open about this to my husband and he will understand it. I am perfectly fine if he goes alone. But when i tell my friends i dont even want to hear their response. It would either
1) be "oh you dont need to lose weight you are not fat (ya right like 25 lbs too much !!!) "
OR
2) the next one which i HATE ( I have to diet too i have gained a lot of weight but i hardly do and blah blah blah )

there is one friend esp who irritates me with invites to eat out while she herself could benefit from losing a couple of pounds.

How do you guyz handle your frnds invites to eat out??

Hi Friends,

Hope all are doing great and having a wonderful day just as I am enjoying this day with loads and loads of chocolates. YES, I AM a CHOCOLATE LOVER and seems really hard to stop eating them everyday; YES EVERY SINGLE DAY.

I feel I am so much addicted to it that my brain starts yelling at me for chocolates if I don't eat them after lunch and snacking:bonk.

With this addiction to chocolates I am trying to reduce weight:omg:. Sitting at my office desk I slowly sneak into my draw to reach to chocolates which I hate to do but can't stop the brain.

More over being Christmas time around every store is filled with variety of chocolates which I tend to buy (even though I tell myself I shud not eat them)

Does anyone here have the same problem while trying to reduce weight? Please suggest me the ways to avoid them if you are in same situation how do you manage??????? Please help.

Regards,
Rani

2 reasons Why it takes longer to lose your last 10 pounds...
1. You don't burn as many calories doing weight loss activities
As you lose weight you'll burn less calories doing the same activity because since you weigh less - your body has to burn less calories or use less energy to move a lighter weight so for example...
You used to burn 238 calories walking 4 mph for 30 minutes when you weighed 200 pounds but once you weigh 130 pounds you'll only burn 155 calories walking at 4 mph - See how to burn more calories
2. You don't have too much weight to lose
If you were 300 pounds & overweight - You could probably lose 2-to-5 pounds a week but if you only had 10 pounds to lose...
You may lose 2 pounds some weeks but you should expect to lose only 1-to-2 pounds a week and some weeks you'll lose less than a 1 lb. because as you lose weight...
Your overall fat burning metabolism decreases which doesn't make you stop burning fat but it makes you burn fat at a slower rate so...
It's not exactly harder to lose your last 10 pounds...
It just takes longer to lose your last ten pounds because of reasons #1 & #2 above and that's why you really don't want to cheat on your weight loss plan when trying to lose your last 10 pounds and because of the slower weight loss rate...
You can lose 30kgs without any machine, pill or powder but you have to learn to eat healthily, walk daily, and drink plenty of water (2-3 ltrs). I would like to share with you the personal experience of Reenu (name changed) who has followed this formula for 10 months and lost 30kgs, averaging 3 kgs a month. She started at 108 kgs and is now78kgs. She is a 21-year-old college student who has done diet counselling with us and has been very committed and consistent in following all the rules and coming regularly for a weekly weight check for the last 10 months. Reenu says she feels like a new person.
So what did Reenu eat? There are 3 important principles we need to understand and practice for weight reduction. Strictly avoid eating Fatty Food. If you want to pull out fat from your body you can’t be putting fatty food into your body. You cannot touch chips, and fries, snacks and sweets, nuts, pastries and pies, cookies and cakes, no mayonnaise, butter, ghee, cheese, paneer and rich red meats. Also you have to use only skimmed milk.
Hey, but all the yummy stuff is in this list. How can we live without all this? Here’s the nice part, its not forever, it’s only for a short period of time. One month to lose 3 kgs. About 3 months to lose 10 and 10 months to lose 30kgs. I myself have lost 25 kgs in a year. What’s 3 months or 6 months or even a year in your lifetime if you can be fit and beautiful at the end of it. Just think you have an allergy to these foods for a short period of time. Another good way to correlate this is to think of the treatment for a broken leg. If you fracture your leg there is only one single treatment, i.e. you have to put it in a plaster cast. Terrible, difficult, most inconvenient treatment but if I want to walk again, I simply have to do it and bear it. Only nice part is, it’s not a lifetime treatment but a short-term treatment – 6-8 weeks. We have to immobilize the leg, similarly, we have to immobilize fatty food from going into our mouths for 90 days.
Here is a help line – During these months I know it wont be easy, your mouth will water, your eyes may water, but tell yourself, “I have eaten all these goodies for 21 years, nothing will happen to me if I don’t eat any of them for three months or even for a year. When you finish your weight reduction you go into a maintenance level where you are permitted to eat your goodies again but with caution. You need to follow a budget system and limit your self to 2 treats per week. E.g. you may eat an ice-cream after lunch on Wednesday and go out for biriyani on Saturday. If somebody offers you a chocolate on Sunday you have to say “no,” but you may eat the chocolate on Thursday and again go out for Chinese on next Saturday. The secret is never go on a fatty food eating binge from morning to evening and don’t even eat your 2 treats on the same day. If you have eaten your ice-cream and suddenly someone calls you out for dinner that night, you have to be very strict and eat no fatty food. If you have had your biriyani today and are called out tomorrow, you have to be strict tomorrow. It is 2 treats per week with a gap of 2 or 3 days around each treat. This is the art of maintaining weight. (Avoid overeating fatty foods and then skipping meals to compensate and maintain weight. Every time you skip a meal you are lowering your metabolic rate and in the long run you will gain weight).
The second principle is that you follow a balanced and healthy eating plan, starting now and going on forever so that it becomes a way of life. In this plan you never skip a meal, you eat 3 balanced meals, which are divided as 40% breakfast and 11am fruit, 40% lunch plus tea and 20% dinner. Every meal must have a balance of carbohydrate and protein foods and there has to be 2 fruits daily, 2 salads & 2 servings dhal/pulses (1 at lunch and 1 at dinner) and 2-3 glasses milk/curd daily.
Thirdly, one needs to eat plenty of fiber that comes as whole cereals, atta bread, phulkas (dry roti) corn or wheat flakes, bajra or jowar roti, ragi roti or ragi ball, raw salads and fresh whole fruits (please avoid juices as they lose the fiber). The fiber helps to make your body work harder every time it has to be digested.

How to Lose Weight Permanently

Many people know that most of weight loss programs in the market are not really good to lose weight and keep that excess of weight off in a permanent way. The following is an article I found in an article directory that talks about how to do that without using hard exercises, or diet pills or extensive dieting. but before reading the article I want you to know that there is 4 main facts about weight loss:
The first thing that you must know is that it takes time to accomplish your dream of a nice figure... the second fact is that you must change your eating habits, it is a veri crucial step... the third is that a good diet doesn't mean eating less but it means eating in a healthy way... And the final fact is that the bigger enemy of your weight loss goals is hunger, so you must eat in a proper way (avoid ultra low calories meals, eat healthy fats) in order to avoid hunger.
In order to make for you easier to lose weight is good to give yourself a good incentive, this incentive together with a det of step-by-step targets will help you to achieve your goal in stages (not trying to lose 20 pounds in one day!), so please don't be in arush - this takes time.
Also you can get support from your family or a friend. having big support makes a great difference in your program. Plan in advance what you are going to eat, and please, to avoid hunger keep healthy snacks in the refrigerator. It's very important that you are flexible enough to overcome bad days without giving up your program. So please don't get hysterical when this happens.

Is it difficult to lose weight in a permanent way? The weight loss industry tells you that it is not, you just have to take this pill or follow that diet or buy this piece of equipment and everything will be fine, they tell you. In fact, as you know we spend a lot of money on weight loss and yet we are still overweight. But, yes its easy to lose weight fast, most diets on the market today will help you lose weight relatively quickly, but the point I am trying to make here is that this does not mean that is a permanent weight loss, most people regain their weight within a few weeks/months.
Permanent weight loss only is possible when there is a substantial change in your eating habits. A change that will allow your body to burn excess body fat permanently, after all we don't become overweight as a result of a few months of bad eating habits. It's about making a real commitment to make healthy choices each and every day, if you're not ready to make some big and fundamental changes, then losing weight will be permanently hard, believe me.
Here below are a couple of tips for permanent weight loss; these are things you will need to look at in order to get yourself on a healthy path.
You have to take a good breakfast, if you don’t have time in the morning then please eat a healthy cereal bar, which would be even better than eating nothing at all. Believe me; it is very hard to have permanent weight loss when in your eating plan you do not include breakfast.
Remove all forms of sugar from your diet. Fruit is high in naturally occurring sugar. So do not drink juice. Eat an orange or an apple if you really want to eat fruit but do no take fruit juice. Once you have achieved your ideal weight, then eat the fruit but do exercise. Also cut out bread, if you really need to eat bread then eat whole grain wheat but no white bread.
Have a healthy snack between meals, this way you put a limit to hunger pains, especially if the snack is eaten one hour before a meal.
If you don't enough, it's hard to lose weight. It is possible to lose weight through diet alone, but ideally you have to workout in a consistent way. You only need to set up a good workout schedule that you can follow each week. You are overweight because you are trapped inside a set of habits that keep you from losing weight permanently. There are no quick ways to losing weight and keeping it off.
Weight loss is a big goal, so you have to have something else to motivate you, because as you already know, it takes time to lose weight. In the meantime, Find more reasons to be thin and healthy, for example, having more energy. Obviously you still could enjoy occasional treats after you cross small predefined milestones, may one day a week can be used as a treat day.

Hot water v/s Cold Water – Which one is the winner? You decide

The first thing we are always advised upon our health issues is to guzzle loads of water at-least 8-10 glasses of water per day if not more. But do you that the temperature of water plays an important role in the functioning process of the body. Just with the temperature of the water the way our body works and functions is different and it is definitely a lazy way for us to burn those extra calories and boost our metabolic rate as we age.

Here are the Pro’s and Cons of hot water and cold water.

Drinking Cold Water
Pro’s
1. If you drink cold water it boosts the metabolic rate of the body as the body works to bring it to your body temperature.
2. Easily availability every where you go.

Con’s
1. Cold water solidifies the oil which you consume and turns it to fat.

Conclusion for Cold water
Though cold water is easily available and boosts the metabolic rate it also turns the oil from our food to fats, so we are back to square one.
No major change but a risk of cardiovascular disease. The Con’s outweighs the Pro’s.

Drinking Hot Water
By hot water I mean as hot as your coffee or tea not scalding water

Pro’s
1. If you drink Hot water it boosts the metabolic rate of the body as the body works to bring it to your body temperature.
2. Flushes the oil in your food out of the body
3. It increases the digestion process
4. Slows down the aging process.
5. Boosts immune system.
6. Helps with the roughage.

Con’s
1. Less Availability of hot water everywhere you go.

Conclusion for Hot water
Drinking hot water is an ancient Ayurvedic method. Though hot water is less available it is a simple and easy way to improve our lifestyle and bring positive outcome of this change. The Pros outweighs the Cons.

source : ezine articles

the fast pace lifestyle that we have nowadays has finally rendered most of us very easily vulnerable to diseases and illnesses that were seldom in the past, such as heart diseases, cancer, hypertension, obesity, chronic conditions like asthma, constipation, etc.

The good news is: the simple answer to most of these physical conditions can be easily found in regular and frequent exercises like yoga, stretching, Tai Chi, swimming, or walking. Although these kinds of exercise don't have the macho look and feel as pumping iron, they're very good treatment or preventative measures for a majority of the nowadays medical conditions and diseases such as those mentioned above.

Among these exercises, simple walking can go a long way to improving one's health. Besides, walking is a fun and easy exercise that is also a great stress reducer. One of the greatest advantage walking has over the other exercises is that you can do it anywhere. No heavy duty gears needed except a pair of comfortable walking shoes. Simple walking as routine exercise can be easily carried out rain or shine.

There simply is no excuse not to do it for at least 30 minutes a day on a regular basis. What if it's raining cats and dogs out? Just walking around a few times indoors can get the job done easily.

Studies have found and proven the value of such low impact exercise as walking to be whole lot greater than that of running and other more strenuous forms of exercise, which when not done correctly or under the right kinds of physical conditions, can cause all kinds of joint pain and soreness and thus have serious negative effects on the body itself rather than contributing some positive favors to it in the long run.

The key point to remember when using simple walking as regular exercise is to do it for a longer period of time every time, the reason being that it's best to build up the intensity of the exercise session in one go, rather than the 'stop and go' pace like the other exercises.

When intensity is maintained over a period of at least 30 minutes to an hour or so, the body will burn whole lot more fat and calories that you'd feel very good afterwards. Besides, you just can't hurt yourself too much by just walking.

Therefore, more and more people have now realized the value of such an excellent form of exercise to such an extent that hiking and walking clubs are popping up everywhere. Not only walking can be a fun way to add spices to our social life and form new networks, but also it can be health enhancing as well, especially when we get more into shape and push our intensity to higher levels with walking programs like 'power walking' or mountain hiking.

The more fit we are, the more capable , the more health we can maintain.

Before we know it, we're as fit as fit can be!

What is the value of good health and longevity to you? Isn't it high time you got started right away?
