    Hi,

One of my friend is moving to Gothenburg to continue her higher studies.

Kindly help me in knowing few details.....

Let me know the climate of the place. What type of clothes is suitable and for which climate.. As a student with how much of that currency will she require per month to manage her expenses... What all should she carry with her extra apart from the basic things....

    Hi Jhaanthika,

It is usually windy, cold (because of the wind) and rainy most of the year. The winter is not so severe (not very ice/snowy) compared to Stockholm. It is better to wear layers (one on top of another) of clothes depending on the temperature.
Sweater,a good leather jacket/ warm woollen jacket/ water and windproof insulated long jacket, gloves, inner thermal wear and a good pair of boots in one size bigger (to wear thick socks and still feel comfortable) are essential fro the months from Sept to Feb.
Rest of the time, it is spring and summer, so regular jeans, tops, sandals will suffice and maybe a sweater if necessary. And, keeping an umbrella will also be good!

And yes, regular indian wear is also okay to wear in spring/summer months but difficult to cope with the cold with those clothes in winter.

The monthly expenses for students depend on the rental housing. The individual student housing w/o sharing can be quite expensive : anywhere between 2900 - 4000 SEK in the city centre and from 2700 SEK or little less in other areas.
Groceries might be around 700-800 SEK for an individual but careful planning, checking out special offers in supermarkets, etc can reduce it.
Bus/tram card to travel in the Gothenburg region can be taken monthly (335 SEK for under 26 yrs age) or for three months (990 SEK for under 26 yrs age) or single ticket (21 SEK by sms). To be able to travel to surrounding regions (kommun), the price increases.
The above are the basic essential for every month.....you can make a rough estimate based on it.

There is an Indian shop near the city centre. Good idea to bring as many spices/masalas/pickles as you can from India intially.

Good luck and if you need more information, ready to help!!
