    Hi all,
there have been quite a few queries about the confusion bonk in the interlacing part of the motif! therefore i decided to start a new thread detailing the whole process!
KUTCH work flourished in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the KUTCH region of Gujarat-India. they use a simple combination of herring bone, darning, buttonhole & chain stitches. in the course of their wandering, these nomads picked up new techniques like interlacing stitch which is characteristic of traditional Sindhi embroidery, practised widely by immigrants from SIND and BALUCHISTAN.
    So lets start;
    1. draw paralel lines to suit the size of the mirror- if u want one, and the size of the stitch u intend working. pic-1. for practise pls draw parallel lines in a big size so it will bw clear.
2.i have numbered the points from 1-24, insert the threaded needle from below at point 1, insert at 2 and bring it out at 3.-pic2.
3.from 3 insert it at 4 and bring it out at 5-pic3.
4.from 5, insert at 6 and bring out at 7-pic4.
5, from 7 insert at 8 and bring out at 9-pic5.
    more in the next post!

    hi,
    am continuing the method!
    6. from 9 insert at 10 and bring it out at 11- pic 6.
    7. from 11 insert at 12 and bring it out at 13 - pic-7.
    8. from 13 insert at 14 and bring it out at 15- pic-8.
    9. from 15 insert at 16 and bring it out at 17- pic - 9.
    10. from 17 insert at 18 and bring it out at 19 - pic-10.
check the pics in sequence. u can number the points on ur cloth when u do kutch for the first time to help u remember the direction.

    12. now from 21 insert at 22 and bring it out at 23= pic - 12.
    13. now from 23 insert it at 24 - pic-13.
now the base stitch is finished- it is on this square frame the interlacing will be done.

    hi!
now we can start the interlacing.
1).bring the needle out between 1 and 24, the thread goes over thread1-2 and goes under thread 23-24.it then goes over thread 3-4, and goes under thread 2-1. pic-1.
please note the thread point numbers for all the pics even though i havent numbered them.
2). then from under thread 2-1, the needle goes over thread 3-4 and again under thread 2-1 and over the adjoining thread.then the needle goes over thread 22-21, and then goes under under thread 3-4 again. pic-2.
now u guys read through this and try it out, we'll then continue tomorrow.
pls feel free to ask me any doubt u have.

Hi Thanks a lot. You made it look like child's play. I learnt this work long time ago. But I was always confused about the interlacing part. Now you made it look very easy.

Your instructions are clear and pictures are so useful. Thanks a lot. You gave me confidence to start this work.

Can you please post some designs also?[IMG]
