    Hi All,

I am a newbie to this website.

I am currently on H4 VISA, for the past 6 months. After having a tough time adjusting in the USA, after getting frustrated with the dependant life, after being a housewife (never thought i would be one), I have finally decided (with a huge support from my husband) to study further.
Basically I am an MBA - Finance graduate and have experience in the Accounts Field from India. So i have been thinking of pursuing CFA.
Would like suggestions and advise on the same, whether i can go for it.

    Pls Help!!

With your accounting experience I would think that CPA is a better fit. It has only 4 courses.

If you are on H4 visa you might want to combine CFA/CPA with volunteering in order to land a job.

The finance industry is pretty specialised in the US. Each role requires well-defined degrees and experience. In India with a broad based MBA one could find a job in any sector say banking, accounting, insurance or trade. Its does not work that way in the US. So its necessary for you to make up your mind on what you want to do, your interests, the hours that you want to put into your job etc.

If investments, stocks and valuation excite you, you should be considering CFA. Its a pretty intensive course that could take 3 years to complete.

If you think accounting is your forte go the CPA route.

If you can afford it, it will be great to supplement the CFA/CPA with a masters in US.
AFAIK, degrees secured from Indian universities do not count much unless the universities happen to be IIT/IIMs. A masters opens up avenues and might help in finding sponsorship for H1 visa.

Mere CPA/CFA will not help up get visa sponsorship. In this case volunteering for a while in accounting/finance helps.

    Hi salu79,

I am planning to write CFA. I am also in the same state like you in US. Have you written CFA? Can you please share your thoughts about that. Thanks in advance.
