I also belong to the negative blood group A-ve...my doctor has asked me to keep relatives with same blood informed just in case as negative blood is rare.

As soon as the baby is born, umbilical cord blood sample should be tested to know babies blood group. If it is Rh negative no problem. If the baby is Rh positive then you should be given Anti D injection within 48 to 72 hours. So that if you conceive another Rh Negative baby in future the baby will not be affected.

Over here we get RhoGAM shot at 28 weeks and after baby is born they check baby's blood group, if baby is RH Positive then you get another RhoGAM shot to prevent future miscarriages.

I am O-Negative and was given RhoGAM in first pregnancy but my son was RH Neg so did not need another shot after he was born. This time also I got RhoGAM shot at 28 weeks.
