I had my anomaly scan on 28th. I was so looking forward to it. Everything went well with the scan but then there was a concern from Doctor regarding my baby's kidneys and bladder. Doctor told that both the kidneys and bladder are enlarged to some extent. I was worried to the core at that point and my eyes were wet. Doctor told me that there is nothing to worry about at this point and she is going to refer me to a
Specialist in Maternal Fetal medicine for a detail check-up. Doctor told me that there are a lot of positives about the baby and baby is right on target on growth. Everything else was extremely good. Doctor told that she will try to get the Specialist appointment ASAP so that I don’t have to remain concerned for long. We were moved by her kind gesture and thanked her. We got the Specialist appointment the next morning itself.

The repeat scan at the Specialist center was at a more detail level and we very much liked the sonographer who performed the ultrasound. She is very kind, wonderful, always in high spirits and had a smiling face. She checked everything in detail and then said that the bladder is normal and the kidneys are little bit enlarged. One was 4.5mm and other was 5mm. There was a little bit of fluid retention and told us not to worry about this as it should get resolved by itself. She also said that she has seen this quite common among babies. Specialist Doctor then met us after reviewing the scan results and told that if kidney size is between 4mm to 7mm, then it is a mild case and 96% of such cases gets resolved by itself before birth. The worst case if there is a lot of fluid retention at birth, then they may have to do a minor procedure on the baby which is usually not even an inpatient procedure and then everything else will be normal. I hope it never gets to that point and everything will be alright by the time the next scan is done.

Sorry for the long post. I feel better after sharing and I hope it might help other concerned moms as well.

@akilakarthi - Don’t worry about renal pelviectasis dear. 4.3 mm is a mild case and should get resolved by itself over the course of pregnancy. I am very sure both our babies will be fine :)

@happygolucky22 - it was very kind of you to request everyone to consider rescheduling the anomaly scan if already scheduled before 20 weeks. I too was worried about that and checked with my Doctor's office. Nurse assured not to worry about it and told that the heart chambers should be fully developed for most babies by 18 weeks. And it is true that some babies might be a little behind. However, she told me that I can reschedule if I want to. I just couldn’t wait and thought its okay. We saw all 4 heart chambers of our baby. Unfortunately both the times we couldn’t confirm the gender. I think my baby is shy and would not reveal :) At one point, baby was giving a cute pose with both the tiny hands held behind the head and was comfortably resting above my bladder. We all couldn’t stop smiling looking at this pose. And then baby started moving and even waved us 'hi'. But we had no luck in finding out the gender yet. Did you get your Panorama test results yet? My Quad test results (genetic screening test) came back as normal. I am sure your too will be normal :) Panorama is a more accurate test and you will get to know the gender too. You will not have to wait like me :)

That's it from me for now. I wish very good luck to all the other moms for the 20th week scan. Do share your experience. It would be nice to hear from everyone :)

Hi Sandhya, i was checking this thread if you updated anything about ur anatomy scan...i am sorry u had to undergo so much of mental stress..hope u r feeling better now..i think it will soon resolve by itself, my well wishes.
My anatomy scan is in mid june. Yes I did get my panaroma results by mid of may and they all are in low risk category so yeah they came normal. Waiting for my anatomy scan now...day after tomorrow is my wedding anniversary so leaving for a trip in the evening today...we both came to know the gender of the baby as well... it is a very big relief as i was not able to control my curioisity so that was one of the best part of panorama gigglingsmiley We have decided to keep it as a surprise for both friends and family and did not share the gender results with anyone  It was very hard in the beginning to digest this big reveal but now its ok. At this point only my mom knows the gender :)) i am also waiting to have the gender reconfirmed with the anatomy scan.

Do not take much tension dear i will pray for your baby too and everything soon will be fine.. Take care of urself and enjoy these days :))

@happygolucky22 - Wish you a happy anniversary in advance!! This anniversary must be very special to you both as a cute little one will join your family soon. Congrats on knowing the baby's gender!! So, you guys can now start thinking about the name and finalize one before baby is born. It must be really exciting and I too cant hold the suspense till the end :) Hopefully my baby doesnt get shy in the next scan. We too decided to keep the surprise about baby gender to family and friends :)

Thank you for keeping my baby in your prayers dear!! I felt very much relieved after meeting the Specialist Doctor. I especially liked what the Doctor said about this that it is just a finding and not an issue on its own. And he said he has seen several cases like this and even worse cases (kidney size>10mm) which got fine during the course of pregnancy. I am positive this condition will resolve on its own for my baby!!

Take care and good luck for your next scan!!
