Anyone keepin Roza???

Hello everyone..

My neighbor has kept Ramzan and following the fast strictly.. They say it a time for purifying mind and soul..

They even give tithes to the poor..

Is there any IL"s following this?? Can they tell me in details the rules and reasonss behind keeping this strict fast?
