Default Jantar mantar!!!

The original name Yantra (instrument) mantra (formula) has been corrupted to Jantar Mantar.

Situated at Connaught Place area of New Delhi, Jantar Mantar is one of the five observatories built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler and founder of Jaipur, in India.

He built five Jantar Mantars in India, located at Delhi, Jaipur, Varanasi, Ujjain and Mathura.

Jantar Mantar of New Delhi was built with a view to help the practicing astronomers in observing the movements of the Sun, Moon and all other planets.

When compared to others, this observatory is the largest and the best preserved today.

But, after its erection in 1724, it remained functional only for seven years. Many experts in this field are of the view that these observatories fell into disuse, because of lack of thought on the part of the king.!!

I have never been to Jantar Mantar....
Some one please tell me if i should plan to go ....

It is true that Jantar Mantar is very popular, also among tourists and the people of Delhi.

The structure is another great masterpiece of Indian architecture which shows the scientific acumen of ancient India.

It has Fourteen geometric devices used for measuring time, forecasting weather changes, predicting behaviour of planets and finding extraterrestrial altitude. All these devices are fixed structures and point to a specific direction. The largest device or instrument is the Samrat Jantar which is 90 feet high and its shadow is plotted in such a manner so that is shows the exact time of the day. Any weather change or the onset of monsoons can be ascertained by the Hindu Chhatri, which is a small domed structure.

It is spectacular, must to visit I may say... What do you think....

It is a nice place Loveleen, to visit. well read this along..

Jai Singh's idea was to create a rebirth of practical astronomy among the Indian masses and practicing astronomers.

However, the lofty ideals of the Jantar Mantar remained unfulfilled as the country at that time was in chaos and the full potential of this observatory was never realized.

In the beginning, Jai Singh tried to use brass instruments in this observatory, but soon gave them up because of several inherent flaws. They were too small, for one thing, their axes were unstable so the center often got displaced. He then decided to follow the style adopted by the renowned Arab astronomer, Prince Ulugh Beg. Jai Singh ascended the throne of Amber. he was just eleven but had a very sharp.

I have just given this detail as a matter of knowledge. You know History always helps in seeing the things more sensibly..

Located in the bustling Sansad Marg, the Jantar Mantar is another example of the scientific achievements of ancient India.

The vast red sloping structure in the Jantar Mantar is the sundial which is known as the Samrat Yantra. It is an equinoctial sun dial. The sundial casts the shadows to calculate the time and the movement of planetary positions. There is a Misra Yantra which has a number of functions and it can also measure the shortest and longest day of the year.

Hey I find no one has visited this place... Is it so???
