Hi everybody does idli podi at home in different style ,here goes our chettinad style idli podi.
    1 cup thurdal
    1 cup urad dal
    16 red chillies (dried )
If preferred I garlic, little gooseberry size tamarind
    Needed salt
    Asafetida
In a kadai pour half cup of oil ,after oil heats up add thur dal and sauté till dal changes its color.switch the stove off remove the thur dal
In the same oil sauté urad dal till golden, switch it off remove the dall from oil
Then in the same kadai remove the excesses oil sauté without oil red chilli, garlic, tamarind, asafetida.in medium sim
Grind everything coarsely like shoji rawa and store in air tight container
If preferred can add curry leaves but podi looks green color
Wash curry leaves dry nicely and spread in a microwave plate and make the leaves dry and can b added while powdering .
If 1/2 cup oil is used ,so that the podi tastes good
    Otherwise it looks very dry
