    Friends
Upon request I am posting these two pictures of Saraswathi doll that I made for Navarathri this year.
Unfortunately I could not take more pictures as the work progressed because my hands were sticky with clay, glue, and paint ... and most importantly I was short of time and was in a rush, rush. (Typical of me - last minute :))

Please also visit the thread http://www.indusladies.com/forums/f...tuals/195089-share-your-golu-photos-here.html and post your golu photos there too.

Kkrish, you have done a good job! Did you buy the armature and the face at michaels? How about the veena? Did you make it too/

Thank you Latha, Sudha, Shivshankari, Lathaviswa, Usha, and Renu for your compliments!

Thanks to others for liking it.

@Sundarusha: No Usha, neither the armature nor the face are store bought.

    I made the armature by...
    • twisting a 22gauge steel wire 3-4 four times and shaping it.
    • Then I twisted knitting wool around the wire. on top of that I glued cotton pieces to get he basic shape of the upper body and hips, thighs, arms.
    • Then I held them in place by the flower-stem tape.
    • Then applied clay.

The face I sculpted out of Crayola Air-dry clay. Well, my late grandpa used to make huge life-like sculptures and I used to watch him when I was a little girl (10-11) every year for Navarathri. So had some idea of how to go about it. Compared to his work mine needs a number of improvements.

I made the veenai too ...two Styrofoam (thermacol) balls attached by wire, then tape, then clay.

Here is one of my grandpas 6-ft tall Devi sculpture made even before my mom got married. She is my inspiration.
