Hi Ladies,

I had never wore make up except for lipsticks, so do have much knowledge about it ... But I might be soon getting a job and would like to know what/how to wear a "minimum" make up. I think some sort of make up is essential for me, as my face looks pretty dull most of the times with some pimple scars, black heads etc. Staying at am home I try some homebased remedies only...But now am not sure if they are enough. So I am planning on going for a Hair cut, lipstick and a minimum make up to look formal and decent at work. But am not sure how exactly to do it..:spin

All the foundation/cleanser/toner they all confuse me, am not sure what all do I need and how to apply/wear them.

So dear ladies please help me out in letting me know what is required for doing a minimum make up to look presentable at work.., the name of the product and good brands so that I can go ahead and purchase them.

Love,
Sarada

Best thing to do would be to visit a MAC store or a drugstore where they have make-up consultation near you, and get them to show you how to do it. They kind of do it for free, as they expect you to buy their products. You aren't obliged to buy, though, if you don't like their cosmetics. MAC is a good store. Expensive but totally worth it, in my opinion. Which doesn't really count for much perhaps, as I don't wear lipstick either on a regular basis.

OFFICE MAKE UP - SUBTLE AND SUBDUED:

Keep it Simple :

In a professional office environment, less is more. It's okay to be a little trendy and reflect who you are, but don't overdo it.

BEFORE AND AFTER MAKEUP:
FOR a healthy, well preserved skin, follow the basic 3 minute skin care routine of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing before makeup and also at the end of the day to remove dust and stalemake up.
So, remember to follow this routine twice a day-before make up and to remove make up at the end of the day.

1. Prepare your face for receiving make up by first cleaning it with any good cleanser or cleansing milk. Apply toner to remove the left over cleanser and shrink your pores. Massage some moisturizer(containing UVA & UVB filters ) before you start make up.
(Rubbing ice over face before applying anything makes make up stay for long )

2. Foundation may be avoided, but if you do not have a smooth complexion, you may wear it by adding some water or toner to the foundation to make it translucent. Use very little of foundation. Now pat some powder and highlight your cheeks with a powder brusher.Cream blusher may give a worn out look by the evening.
(Keep blusher to the minimum-you may prefer to skip it altogether)

3. For your eye makeup a liquid eye liner to define the eyes. Apply kajal or rather a touch of eye pencil is long-lasting and won't need maintaining during the day and a single coat of mascara to finish.

4. Finally apply lipstick and blot with a tissue paper for a more natural look.
Lipsticks are often most effective when they are in strong, matte shades and so are more assertive, try burgundies, deep or rust browns. Avoid paler shades like pastel pink or peach, particularly when they are glossy or frosted.

5. Remember to do your make up in natural light and not in a closed room under artificial lights.

6. Remember to check that your nails are manicured and also add polish. A transparent top coat is enough to give your hands that important cared-for look.

7.Don’t forget the deodorant or a god floral body spray to keep you smelling nice the whole day.

Following these simple ground rules will ensure that you are always putting your best face forward. :thumbsup

Thank you so much Confused adn sweeto :)

Is there a brand that you can suggest for the make up items?

I am not sure of any as I havent been using it. Also lipstics, they somehow never give a good look, it makes my lip dry. Is that how it will be? Or its just that I am not using a nice brand.

Pls suggest a good brand or ways of using a lipstick. Thanks :bowdown

hi JKS,

Lipstick itself contains moisturizers n conditioners so if u r using a gud brand, it shud not dry ur lips...
How to apply : First of all prime ur lips by applying a little moisturizer or lip balm to soften your Lips and also to help the Lipstick to glide on more easily n then apply a light coat of foundation to your Lips to act as a base and to help even out the color.

There are many gud brands in the market u can check them out at ur nearby drugstore or wallmart . For all ur make up u can go for brands like Avon, Revlon, Maybelline, Clinique, Cover Girl and Mary Kay, L'Oreal, Mac n many more r there..u can try them out..:thumbsup

Moreover if u've any further query pls feel free to let me know..

Thanks a ton sweeto ..I have to get a nice branded one then....And few more questions if you can help me out with..

How do I actually buy the Foundation / concealer / primer or toner. I mean, is only a good brand enough? Or is there anything else I need to take care of. For instance my skin is kind of a dry skin, and I am wheatish in complexion so i guess I need to buy my foundation/concealer based on the skin type and color. But how???? I mean what exactly should I check??
Will I see a close color resembling my skin color. How exactly can I find out?? Because all brown shades looks almost same to me :drowning How do I know which is right for me? Is it only trial-and-error?? :spin

Also is there any such thing for buying a toner too?

I would pass the eye make ups... I just need something for my cheek mainly as it has pimple scars and blemishes...

And do you know a good way to remove black heads? I see some pore strips, do they do any harm??

I know its a looooooooooooot of questions. But your help is greatly appreciated ! Thanks

Love,
Sarada

Primer: Choose a primer appropriate for ur skin type as u told u've a dry and sensitive skin so select a primer that nourishes the skin and calms inflammations. The sequence shud be :
moisturizer --> primer ( let it sink in for 2-3 mins ) --> foundation --> concealer (While using liquid or solid foundation, best results could be obtained by applying concealer afterwards )
Recommended Makeup Primers:

1.NARS Makeup Primer
2.Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
3.Laura Mercier Foundation Primer
Foundation: To select the right foundation apply a small amount of foundation in the chin area, which is close to your natural skin tone) If you have dry skin, you need a foundation that has moisturizers in it. Look for hydrating products specially designed for dry skin. Select liquid formulas that provide a light coverage and won’t clog the pores.
Recommended foundations are :
1. MAC Selected Moisture Blend SPF 15
2. Clinique Soft Finish Makeup
3. Clinique Perfect Real Makeup Foundation
Concealers :1. Pick the right shade. The correct concealer color should mimic the undertones in your skin, whether they be pink, yellow, olive, or brown. This is often referred to as warm or cool. You should also match the brightness. You can tell one concealer is brighter than the other because it will appear less grey. The closer you match the concealer to your skin color, the better job it will do of covering up what you don't want to be seen.
2.Decide on color and concentration. The thicker the concealer concentration, the better it will be at masking a big imperfection. When it comes to correcting the color, usually greenish-yellow or blue is best for blasting out redness, while pink or yellow is helpful for neutralizing dark under eye circles.
3. Apply it correctly. Be careful to not apply too much because it will look like you're trying to cover something up. All concealers have a "fakeness threshold" and as you build the concealer you'll notice the level at which it no longer blends seamlessly into your
U can go with liquid or stick concealers.
Recommended concealers:
1.L'Oreal long wearing.
2.Mac studio finish concealer.
3.Revlon colour stay concealer.
Toners :
Avoid using skin toners containing alcohol or any harsh ingredients.
Recommended : 1. Neutogena alcohol free toner.
Blackheads removal for dry skin:
Exfoliate 3 times a week with a gud scrub that suits ur skin.( St.Ives scrub for dry skin ).Nothing is better than treating ur skin in natural ways so u can try this homemade pack:
2 Tbs oatmeal
1tbs honey
Mix the oatmeal and honey together until mixed well. Warm the texture in a microwave. Apply the mask to the face and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Remove the mixture and rinse well with lukewarm water. Do the mask on a regular basis to help eliminate pores from getting plugged with debris.
I personally don’t like those blackhead removing strips as they r not gud enough to remove the stubborn balckheads.
I hope u've got all ur questions answered..All the best.:thumbsup

JKS, as someone who doesn't know much about make-up like you, I would strongly recommend going to a store when they have make-up specialists and describe your skin type etc. and get them to match the make-up to your skin color exactly before you buy it. Many drugstores have a whole make-up section. You can find out when they have a specialist there.

Sweeto, great instructions! IMHO, it is easy to get make-up wrong when you've never done it before. That is why I recommend that she get help.
