I have makeup form early 2012 and late 2013. I would like to start wearing makeup again.

Is it safe to use old makeup?

Does it depend on makeup type?

    Thanks

Eye makeup should be fresh and changed regularly: mascara and liner. I use eyeshadow for a long time. Foundation that old may not be the best to use. I keep compacts, powder blushes and lip colors for a long time provided they are in good condition.

I would not risk it. Makeup is to make you look beautiful. Imagine it going the wrong way and defeating the purpose!
A good rule is to not use any old makeup with is in liquid form. Bacteria tends to accumulate more in those formulas. And as above posted, you need to be extra careful with eye makeup.
Check for any change in original color or smell too.

Powder formulae can be used for long. But liquid is best thrown away after expiry.

Well, I have foundation in a compact and was thinking of using it this Monday (haven't been used for 2 years). Guess I'll toss it :)

I suppose we can still wear makeup with foundation, googling right now ......

I would not recommend. I think that there are already so many chemicals in make up products and using an old make up may have more risks.

I'd recommend not using make up or skin care products beyond their expiry date. Eye make up like kajal, eye liner, mascara should be replaced every few months as they can get contaminated and we wouldn't want them inside our eyes. As for lipsticks, foundations etc I have noticed that the older they get, they change in respect to the colour, consistency etc. So its advisable to discard them once this happens. Since the skin can easily get irritated, always put only clean things on it.
