Hi Pratima

Diwali mela might be a very good opportunity to meet new people if you like. Just a thought. I am not sure when and where it is, but as always the Indian Newspaper or Indian shops might have posters stuck or something of that sort. I can't think of any associations as we are not really part of anything. But that does not mean there aren't any. Visiting temples could also be a nice way to meet people.

Great!! You are going for driving classes.......It took me quite some time to do that and then when I failed my first driving test, I was totally shatterd and did not attempt it again for two years ! Then I finally managed to get my drivers lic. But then do I drive now ??? NO .

Job hunt - Don't let that disappoint you. Keep that attitude always of not giving up. The first job generally is the most trying one for many. I don't work and spend time at home with my house work / reading / IL / go for walks and gym.....maybe watch a movie. But I generally don't watch TV. In the evenings sometimes with hubby I sit and watch, thats all. Off late IL seems to be occupying me a lot.

I think we all love junk food initially but just be a bit careful. Too much is also not good na. I used to live on Mcdonalds fries and coke for a long time. Now I can't think how I managed to do that.

I do have friends here. We all know each other mainly because our hubbys used to study in the same Uni or be in the same place and stayed together ... those kinda acquaintance. Then when all got married, the wives ganged up and became friends. A handful like you too, but we hardly get time to catch up these days !! Everyone is busy with something or the other in life.

Glad you are keeping yourself busy. Good girl! I used to be hooked on to TV soaps for a loooong time. Now I can't stand them. Have some dvds that I borrowed and still have not managed to watch them. Here on IL there is a Forum for recipies by Chitvish Ma'm. Everybody has only praise for the tips. You should try them. I am hoping to try a couple of sweets for Diwali this time. Hope they come out well. Knowing me, anything is possible.

hahaha.. m sure they will come out well, don u worry :), I will search for those recipes too, I don hog on junk food too much coz I get into a weight conscious mode every now and then. ;) But I dont stick onto it either! There is this link on net - Manjula's Kitchen | Indian Vegetarian Recipes.. Try this link too, the dish really tastes good, ofcrs she doesn add onions - m guessin coz she is a Jain, may be they don add onions, but I customize it to our needs! I found this IL site accidental when I was strugglin to get to know when my visa will be granted, it took a lil more than 3 months nd I was bored in India! It is indeed a very nice site! And btw, I found a parlor too - Indian lady, she is ok kinds at her job, manageable! So good for me .. Done with shoppin for Diwali? And anythin special in Melbourne for Diwali? How does one get to know?

Every year there is a Diwali Mela at the Sandringham Racecourse, with stalls and fun stuff. I have not been to any, but this is info that I get from friends. I can only think of Indian Shops again and asking somebody in the shop or the parlour lady ( maybe she might know someone ).

There is another member Supriya, looking for an Indian lady running parlour for her bridal makeup and hair styling. I have no clue of anybody here. If you can, just ask your parlour lady if she knows of anybody. Supriya has started a thread for the same asking if anybody knows, in this Forum. I will also keep an eye and ask somebody.

I found this site by accident too, while browsing through a food blog site. Took a chance to have a look and ended up joining and thats it....not turned back! Diwali shopping ??? No way ..... Just we friends are catching up at one place and planning to spend the night and have fun. Of course we are all going to make sweets and bring. Lots of eating is the idea!

You mean 3 months for spouse visa?? That is pretty quick if you ask me. We all had to wait for 6-8 months those days. Yes those days.....I am giving you a hint on my age isn't it??
