Awesome, you are done with the sweet makin task, and they've come out well too - great news and should be a relief, wat all did u make? Sometimes I start with great enthu and realize that it takes so longgg to make.. esp if somethin has to be deep fried or somethin..
My drivin test is on 6th Nov, m with RACV, lets c how it goes, in the licence centre, she asked some letter from immi ofc, did they ask u for any such thing?? and after i finished she asked if i was perm resident, i said yes, she said no, i mean thr is this clause na, that u have to complete 2 years and them u get ur PR.. so its kinda confusin!!! So anyway, nobody knows the rules prop and not like they r any polite even, so I jus left it.
The drive was awesome, i love beaches so I thoroughly enjoyed and since I dono swimmin I don venture inside, but I so wanna learn swimmin but my hubby is not even interested, sometimes its funny how the likings exactly differ between 2 married ppl :D
In the zoo, funnily most animals were sleepin after lunch, we had to search for many animals :D.. but overall it was nice and some awesome food in the lakeside bistro, i mean my hubby took rice and side dish and frankly, it was better than any indian restau here .. beat that!! The lovely part bout the drive to great ocean road was that traffic wasnt much and the weather was awesome, not rainin and not hot either, was very pleasant and super duper fun..

When you come here on a PR visa, the minute you get the stamp saying you entered, you are a PR. Nothing about completing 2 yrs for that. Unless you did not arrive here on a PR and it is different. But I am pretty sure what I said is right. Call the immigration office and find out just to clarify. One of my friends was also saying the same thing. His wife is the main applicant and him and kids ofcourse dependant. He too thought they need to wait 2yrs. I asked him to check and he found out that the info was wrong and I was right.
So just clarify that with immigration.
Re: Sweets - I always try non-frying stuff . Really can't be bothered frying but then we friends plan to catch up one day to try and make some savouries, which will ofcourse be frying. We managed to make Besan Laddu, Rava Laddu, Ovaltine Burfi and Thiratti Pal ( that tastes like doodh peda, without shape!!). Ovaltine Burfi is stone hard to be honest, but there is so much butter in it ki ek baar muhmein dalo and it sorta melts easily . God saved me there.....hahaha......
Go to the local leisure centre and they may have swimming pools with classes. You can join.

Nice to meet you and welcome to Melbourne and IL! How long has it been since you arrived? You must be finding it cold the past few days isn't it?
Good to hear that you are keeping yourself busy. Good luck with job search too. Pratim is also like you, looking for jobs. I am sure you both will have lots to talk about on that front. IL is a nice place. Even I bumped into this site only recently and have been loving it.

Hi Precious
Yes, I have been here for a while and like the place, but for the cold weather which I can not deal with at all. I have to always been dressed up in warm clothes to feel comfortable. But that is just me. You will be able to settle down quite quickly in this new place. Once the weather starts getting a bit warmer, you will feel much much better. Have you managed to meet up or get to know any new neighbours in your area? What have you been cooking lately?

Hi K2S,
I also can't stay without warm clothes. Hoping to get used to this place soon. My DH did his masters here, so met couple of his friends. They all are very far away from our place. Haven't met anyone in my area. Tried Gobi Manchurian recently. It came out well. Tried few sweets and savories for Diwali. (Thanks to Chitra mam) Saw your previous posts, looks like you have made quite a lot of sweets for Diwali.
Wish you a happy diwali. |

Hello K2s/Precious, How u both doin?? Happy diwali to u both.. K2S - superb setta sweets thr, I know thiratti paal.. m a tamilian :D Even the name reminds me of Aavin - its a brand available in Chennai. Coz I am from bang, I used to look forward to buyin these everytime I visited and used to devour a whole box away without any probs :D But that was when weight was least of my concern - or to be honest, nt a concern at all. Cant imagine doing that without feelin guilty now but I do indulge sometimes And you are right on the immi front, that lady at the ofc got on my nerves pretty much! But I jus left it at tht. We went to Mt Dandenong yest and Hepburn/trentham today, timepass trip but I enjoyed it. Better than stayin at home alone all day ..hehe
Hi again, Precious :) Hows it goin for u? I keep tryin new recipes too, I google it always! There has never been twice that what I prepare come out the same way.. it's always diff from the previous time.. Recently I started adding it to favourites!! I am searchin for jobs too, pretty tuf market out thr, what kinda jobs are you lookin at and how are you applyin??

Hello Pratim, Precious n K2S,
Thank you K2S for adding me on as a friend. I found someone who likes reading as well...love your mature nature
I am a new entrant too...just about getting used to the cold...
I have been a reluctant cook thus far but now with time on my hands i am going bananas trying out new recipes...I have discovered that I like baking and it is rather kind to me (so far its been good).
Since I found curtain shops too expensive (the little that i shopped around), I dug up my sewing machine and sat for two months stitching up all the curtains in my house (black outs, american pleats n all).
I have also tried my hand at changing my garden around a bit (no green thumb), I have planted oranges, limes, camellias and lavender and they seem to be awright so far...
I have ventured into Bunnings at odd hours, picked up paint and as a family we have painted our front facade and our fence...
All this is completely new to me....but I am loving it.....
Besides my neighbours I dont know very many people, so I kill my time getting to do all that my little heart desires...and over the week end we head out to the parks.
Its been ok so far...
would like to eventually find work...but right now i am taking a break from it..i have been working for a long long time....
how was Diwali at your home?? mine was low key...we just pigged on cinnamon cakes..yum!!!!
I am looking to meet people too...a break from the routine, so to speak...
All the best with the job hunt Precious and Pratim and good luck with the driving test....

Hey thanks much Neev, it's on 6th Nov, so I have a good number of days alright, I've been goin for long drives offlate, my parkin is a bit weird though :D.. It's awesome how you are gettin to do so many things - paintin, sewin, gardenin - must be a busy day everyday :)
My Diwali was spent in Gippsland, thr were white sand beaches and we also went to Tidel river area. It was fun, most times drivin and the scenery was more often than the destination - its like the sayin - "Journey is more imp than the destination" ;)
K2S/Precious - how was Diwali?
