and their families living near and around.
money is no probs as they are pensioners .
But something hurts me...

| | Re: Do you know any one in an old home??? Dear Shakambari Yes, I know one of my distant relative is still in Oldage Home. That Aunty have both sons and daughters, you know , she feels very comfortable in that home. They are taking care of the oldage people very much. Aunty use to go Singapore once in a year, and will be there for a month. She use to go to her others childrens houses very frequently, but her permanent place is that old age home. It doesnt mean, that her childrens are not loving her. All the childrens are working, and this aunty need someone's help always. Her childrens dont want their mother to stay alone at home . They think, its better to be along with so many other same age group people . Aunty also like Old age home, very much. All the elder peoples use to do chating, watching Tv, talking with their dear ones over phone, will go to the nearest temple daily and relaxing all the day . The menus will be prepared , according to each and every persons, according to their health problems. They are having 100% freedom. All are enjoying, as if they are in teenage -- friends. Aunty use to say, the owner of that home , as , one of her son. In case of emergency, elders are taken to hospitals, even during late nights. So no problem at all. ( This is what my Aunty told me about her ). Only thing is need MONEY. She use to compare her with the childrens who are studying or working, those who stays in Hostals. and says Nothing wrong in it. ( very well matured aunty naa ) Even I use to get hurt , for those who are living in Old age homes. But now , after , hearing Aunty's life, now , I am little bit convenced. Am I boring you by giving a very lengthy reply. ..............

Dear Susri,
thanks for the detailed fb.
Even I heard some paid old age homes like Classic is very good.
But still, I am not fully convinced abt the residents happiness.
I feel they would have reconciled to reality .
I wonder if I am wrong or right?

Most of the older people comes to the oldage home due to the family problem (like son/daughter left them).
Once my Mom planned to donate some cloths and visited oldage home and the scene she saw there was not a pleasent one...some people over there are crying with their own story...
i strongly feel youngster should take care of the elders....or atelast pay them to be in a good oldage home with all facilities.

Thanks for your views,Shiva.
Even I feel that an old age home is not a happy resort for any senior citizen
They shud be with their own people in their homes.

My close friend is in Canada and she is the only daughter. her mom is no more and dad is alone. So she put her dad in a home in the ou irts of chennai. She was guilty that she couldnt be with him during his old age. But her DH and inlaws will never allow her to keep her dad in her home. So she sends money every month and they take good care of him.

living in an old age home voluntarily is not that bad, compared to putting them there, inspite of their desire to live with their kin.Infact, in these days of busy schedule for the whole family, it will be difficult for people on the run to attend to old people.Being with your own kind, and interacting, is a lot better than being alone and neglected while living with your own kith and kin.

As you say, Kaluputti,
If it is a matter of personal preference it is fine.
