When you live in an apartment, this is going to be a problem which is impossible to solve permanently. Even if you take all the precautions to get rid of it, it is going to come back from the other apartments. You could let your apartment management/handyman know about this problem. They are supposed to bring the pest control people and they have a special paste to get rid of the roaches which is not available to the public. It should be done every 6 months.

Best of luck

Hi Chinnuz
What u said is very true...however i maintain it clean,i guess there is major problem with the old woods. These cockroaches have a particular time to visit my kitchen,i wonder they have any clock.
I had done the pest control last year, but they didn't use teh paste
Let me ask them to do that. Thanks for the info.. Hoping i get some relief.

I tried this and succeeded.

that time we are vacating apartment and moving everhing to single family home, we used to have many roaches in apartment and I put everhing in garage before getting them inside the kitchen of new house and I kept there for 3 weeks , with the sub zero temperaturs, all the roaches died in the boxes.

ifyou live in northeast or any cold areas where in winter the temperature drop below zero degrees, it will work. (if you dont have garage put in balcony) I know it is not that easy and is very tedious, but it gave me result. try vacating kitchen and putting all of them in garage or balcony and clean kitchen as much as u can and use stoves in minimal getting items from balcony(or garage), keep sink clean and dry, try this for 3 to 4 weeks, it is a big project but worked for me after suffering for 3 to 4 years.

Sujatha.

Hi skalluri
We don't have balcony or garage in the apartment. I regularly clean the kitchen before i go to sleep. Recently as some friend suggested i sprayed lizol and cleaned,so these days i just see 1 or 2 roaches only. I guess i can continue this and fully remove them.

To get rid of the roaches from cup boards you could place Bay Leaves. Bay leaves are supposed to work great to get rid of the roaches. Worked for me. :)

Hi Nittu,

you can place the bay leaves [Tej Patha/Biryani Leaf] inside the cup boards. cracks in the wood would not matter. you can google "bay leaves to get rid of roaches" for getting different ideas on using these leaves to combat these roaches. :)

Nittu,

Following is one such idea. You can get more on the net -

You can buy bay leaves at any supermarket on the seasonings isle. Your bay leaves come whole, so you will need to take them out of the bottle and crush them up. They will crush easily in the palm of your hand. Then sprinkle the bay leaves in the corners of your cabinets and pantry. You can sprinkle them anywhere you have seen the roaches. Roaches won't die from the bay leaves, but they will be repelled by them. They will then seek to go somewhere else, leaving your house alone.

All the best to get rid of the roaches :) let me know if this worked for you.

Just a note on bay leaves:

In India bay leaves are the leaves of the cinnamon tree. In USA bay leaves are the leaves of the laurel bush. Which one are you talking about? and be sure to get the right one at the store.

I'm not sure which one i've got but i've used the one which is called tej patta in hindi and we use it in biryani and other things. Bay leaf worked well for me though.but thanks for the info. :) never knew bay leaf could be so different across the globe. :)
