Default Storing Rice

I usually store rice in plastic container. After two or three weeks, I can see small insects running inside the rice.

How can I prevent this? Need help…..

Neha, Don’t worry……..

I will help you in solving this.

Add some curry leaves or neem leaves inside the container in which rice is stored.

I too have heard and agree with what Janet suggested.

Try this also:

Put some garlic pieces inside the rice container and that will help you.

Sonali.

Default Try storing rice with some red chillies...

Try this one to avoid insects...

Add 8 to 10 redchillies to the container in which you store rice. I have heard for the hot smell of the chillies insects would not come.

Also, if you are storing for a longer time in huge quantities, it is better to leave the container open in hot sun say for 2 to 3 hrs. This way you can also avoid the old smell in rice when stored longer.

You can try this one too to avoid insects in rice.

Adding bay leaves to the rice sacks or containers will keep the crawling insects away.

I have added chillies inside the rice container
and to my surprise, now insects are not troubling.
Thank you Amudha.

I haven’t forgotten the others who gave me advices.
Thanks to you all too and I will certainly try all of your suggestions.

Post Adding turmeric

Hi Neha,

You can also add 3 or 4 turmeric pieces (not powder!) to the rice container to keep away the insects.

when u buy for a month defenitely during summer or rainy ants crawl in...better to clean the rice and then put it in a box and not add along with the old one there though it might be less better clean the container and then store....now just dip the ant pesticide available in store dip with a little water and swab around the container in the bottom and sprinkle the powder all around the container on the out side and u will find all crawling agents dont come forward whether summer or rainy...of course u need to do it every 15 days to chek it....hope i have helped..regards...sundarikannan
