    enlightening post, again.....

    Dear Chitra,

A simple but guiding explanation on the different marks we wear on our foreheads.
I do sometimes come across old men & women with different marks on their forehead but never thought much about its significance but now it all looks meaningful.

    Another wonderful post.

    Love & regards,

    Hello Sowmya!

Nice to know that you enjoyed the post.
Paramacharyal says kumkum in the parting, increases the husbad's longevity of life.
I used to put Madurai Kovil Thazamboo kumkum both on my forehead & beginning of parting. I used to love it. Suddenly an allergy creeped in and left indelible 1 cm patches in both the places. Unavoidably, I shifted to sticker pottu, reluctantly as well. Now there is no allergy, but the patch does not get back the original skin colour!
    Love & regards,
    chithra.

    Dear Varloo !

    Thankyou for the feedback.
Yes, sandal paste gives an elegant serene look, but very often announces the nativity of the person - not that there is anything wrong in it!
    Love & regards,
    Chithra.

Thanks a lot for the clear explanation. Will regularly apply kumkum on my hair line partition hereafter. I felt sorry to read about the allergy you developed.

    nice one...

    Varloo
I really loved the piece on men wearing toe rings.Similarly don't you think it will be nice if they also had some tradition /custom to be followed to prolong their wives' lives?

    Regards

Amazed is too mild a world, chith

I had gone out today and just opened to see your post today. I was so fascinated and absorbed by most of of it. The significance of bindhi is so personal and spiritual that i am almost shunning the removal of bindhi when a hindu woman loses her husband. Friends, What do you all say?
Regards and God IS with you ,dear chith

    Colorful explanation

    Dear Mrs C,
What a deep significance. I somewhat knew why women wear bindi but never knew the meaning of vibudhi. You have summed it up very well. I see that our culture is simply dying here in the US. But believe me or not I always love to wear bindi no matter where I go. Westerners love bindi and toe rings. They always approach you and ask why we wear one? I have one doubt is it okay to wear black bindis or should one wear only red ones on festival days.
    Love,
