Default Kanjeevaram silk saris- still hot stuff?

Hi,

How many Kanjeevaram silk saris does an average upper middle class woman have?

How many times is each sari worn in a year?

Does the younger generation still favor it?

Personally I prefer crepes and silk cottons but still wear Kanjeevarams (Thanks to Mil & Moms cribbingBig Laughbonk)

I hardly get to wear them 3-5 times a year.

I may have around 8 . Its not an average upper middle class no but I dont buy much . I dont get to wear them frequently, as I am abroad.

I havent come to 2nd time wearing with some sarees yet.I may have worn it once in 2 yrs .

I still favor it. I feel the look it gives is just exemplary. Nothing can beat it. Close wud be mysore silk sarees. But richness and tradition the kancheevaram saree exhibits is incomparable to anything I know.

Hi Chocolate,

I agree with you .

Nothing can beat it's traditional richness and elegance .

But Chennai is too hot and humid for heavy silks But Chennai is unimaginable minus Kanjeevaram silks...

I have about 12 silk sarees... nothing too too grand. For my wedding my parents got to buy 5 sarees as per tradition. Then one for engagement, the first diwali... so it got collected. I wear it only once a year since we live abroad. Mom maintains them and wears them as well for weddings and festivals.

These days i prefer to buy silk cotton sarees but still as Chocolate says kanjeevaram is unparalleled.

Hi,

True .

An exquisite Kanjeevaram is indeed a work of art and some stay with you

for decades till they qualify as Vintage Classics...

But I feel they are too too formal (especially those very rich ones)

I really wonder how my grandma wore only kanjeevarams (that too 9

yards) day in and day out all thro' her life...
