Regarding Polce Clearance Certificate

Hi -
I need to apply for Police Clearance Certificate at the Regional Passport Office for Immigration purposes. My problem is that - my passport was issued at Cochin, Kerala but I would be applying for the PCC at Chennai. Now, going thru the Chennai Passport website, I understand that I could apply for the PCC in Chennai even though the passport was issued by another state by submitting Proof of residence and personal particulars form.

Does anyone know how long it will take for the PCC to be issued in my case? (I know that that in the usual case where PP is issued in Chennai, it will take only 1 day). Also, what would be the formality? Will a police come to verify at the residence? If so will they inform that before hand(I need to know this since I am working and will not be at home during the day).

Have you done it already. If not, I think you have to take a copy of the proof of residence, passport to the police station in your area for guidance.

if it was routine, then the police personnel would come to your place on their own, since this is the other way round, you need to ask the area police personnel.

sometimes you need to go to the Commissioner's office for the identification and clearance.

You will have to go to Police Commissioners office at Egmore IS Dept. (Intelligence Section) . You have to give xerox copy of proof of residence along with a covering letter addressed to the Commissioner
mentioning request for Police Clearnace Certificate and submit the same in the IS Dept. The paper will be handed over to the person inharge of your area police station , who is siting in the commissioner's office.

He will come to your house along with the above papers for verification.
Then he will give his report to his superiors. Then only the PCC will be issed to you. It will take minimum 3 days.

If you want the PCC on the same day you will have to meet the particular
police personnel after submiting your papers.
