Ration Card is a must

Fifteen days back, I was at the Tambaram AC Consumer Supplies office (this is the office for south chennai..)regarding Ration Card. Looks like Ration Card becomes mandatory for lot of things. I was there, as my FIL had not updated the card, that is deletions/insertions were not done..

During the conversation with others standing there, came to know that ration card is must even for delivery of passport (Though the same was stopped during amma's rule..now again it has become mandatory)

This is for those people who do not have an ration card, updated....

you get a form, for the ration card. you can fill it..If you are married, then you should get your name deleted from your parent's card, and get it included in your husbands. you need to provide the copy of your parent's card, your deletion request, your marriage certificate also.

If you are already included in your husbands family, and have new inclusion, like your kids..you can give a letter, along with the birth certificate of the baby.

And if there is a death, a death certificate copy is needed for deletion.

A copy of the application, plus copy of the acknowledgment token issued by the ration office, can be given during the application for new gas connection.

that was an useful info . and i would like to know some other detail in this..my in-laws are staying in pondy and hold a passport with that address,now if they wish to shift to a rented house in chennai , how should they go abt with these ration card and gas connections ?... if u have any idea , do share with us..

yes i also went through this ration card as an evidence for passport application. i applied for change of address in the ration card to submit it for passport application.

normally they take 1 week from the date of our letter to change the address. i requested the officials to give it in 3 days since it was urgent. they considered and granted me the change.

i found the officials being very efficient and they are upto date in their field of work. very happy to observe.

regarding passport application in chennai - everything has become online. those who want to submit the application in the passport office, they need to register online and get a date of appointment for their interview. you will have to save the application in your computer and take a print out, which comes out with the date of appointment printed alongside.

on the particular day, we need to go with the application and other supporting documents. amount can be either paid in cash or DD.

ilites may get clarified with me regarding online passport application.

Thanks..was just sharing the info...

they don't need to change the address in the passport if the pondy address is permanent one. regarding shifting to chennai and gas connections...they have to get a letter from the pondy.ask them to check with the ration officer whether they can have it shifted to chennai.(I am not sure because it is a different ut..) i think they will ask to surrender the rationcard in pondy..and apply fresh at chennai...at all points do keep copies of the letters, ration cards...with you.

When you apply/shift, you go the office of that circle..like medavakkam,pallikaranai, madipakkam and all come under tambaram area. anna nagar and related areas will come under villivakkam/ambattur i think...not too sure...and submit with the forms available. they will take the form and give you a acknowledgement paper. you have to take a copy of the form before submitting.

now when you apply for gas connection, you submit a copies of the ration application and acknowledgment along.

the problem at the ration offices is it is still manual,and the people there tend to get irritated when the crowd starts demanding too much...I have seen them being really cordial to move with..and also very helpful when you understand their situation.

I have been to that office, i think 3 times...yes the queue is long but still have managed going there..came to know that our ration card is at the printers....he has asked us to come in february end/march end.

The gentleman and lady for our area are really very helpful.....all the best...

That was a detailed reply from ur side..Thanks for ur effort..But how will these turn out when they are in a rented house in pondy ?..Somehow they managed to get a ration card in pondy , but dont know if it will be a nightmare to again do it in chennai..

This is what i would do...i will leave the address part for the passport as it is...regarding ration card, they can get it in chennai....by the same process i mentioned.....all the best....

We have applied for a new ration card (in March 2007)as we shifted to Madambakkam in Jan 2007.For us also , the same AC - Consumer supplies office as you have mentioned in Tambaram(Selaiyur).We got a postcard asking us to bring the photocopy of the application form, my name deletion certificate from my parents ration card! My dad wen to that specified circle Civil supplies office to get my name deleted and it was done today.

So,I'm going this monday to collect our new card!
