when I first came across the title I expected a romantic"Mills and boon story of yours. But you have come out with an useful topic in a wonderful manner(that is what you usually do) .Its 21st century and the world is moving at the pace of light. Internet helps us in connecting to the whole world just at the click of the button. You can chat, send mails and update your knowledge by browsing all types of sites. Its cheap. If you think of calling everyone it will cost you a lot. But there should be limitations to everything. You must have heard the proverb “Anything in excess causes damage.when you get addicted you just go on surfing net and lose your social network of friends. You feel more secured at home and in front of computer. You . have lots of online friends so you dont feel the need to share all stuffs with parents. It makes you more homely and sickly person. We all are social animals and its one of our basic need. You remain wake up in the night for long hours so that you can chat with all your friends and you are available all the time. Technology is upgrading and we should be updated. But everything should be in a check so that things moves smoothly.
with love

Chenniya sir,
Now you compared Krishna to internet , i sincerely hope nobody is going to pray to internet though it is an indispensible tool in our life. I know some get their virtual puja done on the net ,internet is not God though acts a bit like God trying to reach everyone's home. One had a soul & another is a machine.
Actually iam looking fwd to see what will be in the internet in future. May be embebbed in our body. But again iam not sure when is my end.
What will i do without you, i will still survive but communications will be slow, fbs you will get thro mails.
But in future with adnvance in internet, fbs for post will be instant, you just have to press "Jaya" she will go blah! blah! blah!

Dear Radha
You have made a very good point there about all the old letters that we wrote to our spouses bringing back old memories. The physical touch that we imparted to those letters keeps them alive for eternity and they whip up the same emotions every time we handle them. Internet mails are cold means of communication. They lose their relevence, their appeal and their value the moment we finish reading them. A decade latter, an internet mail will not have the same effect as a handwritten mail.
It is true that we have survived prior to internet. We have survived before man discovered fire. We have surived before electricity was invented but every invention makes us so dependent on it that we start wondering how people lived without it. As I sit in my airconditioned room, I find it hard to imagine how our grandparents lived without electricity. Computers, mobile phones, ipods, the list is endless!
Talking of internet, you have summed it up very well in these words:
" its wonderful , makes friends foes, but still its doubtful... no one knows where your mails are stored who is hacking what where when ..."

Dear Padmini
Addiction to computer can cause a lot of physiological and psychological problems. Medical experts caution us about over-doze of computer activity causing ailments like Carpal tunnel syndrome, Repetitive strain injury, Thoracic outlet syndrome, Occupational overuse syndrome, Computer vision syndrome, Back pain, DeQuervain’s syndrome etc. More scary is the psychological problems. I have seen people who spend hours in front of computers slowly becoming a recluse. People who can be the life and soul in internet chat rooms cannot interact with others when they are physically present.
It is true that internet has made our lives a lot easier particularly in the area of communication. But it is slowly eating away our mental faculties and making us a zombie. People virtually live a double life with the gap between what they really are and what they pose themselves to be on the internet widening rapidly.
What is the remedy? Moderation of course! As in everything else. As you rightly point out, 'Alavukku minjinal amirthamum visham!'

Dear Jaya
Laptops have already started sharing space with the picture of Goddess Saraswathi on Saraswathi Pooja days. Divinity has already been accorded to Internet. I fully agree with you about the invasion of Internet into our privacy. Days are not far off when our lives will be an open book in public!
Computer embedded in our body is just round the corner. We'll be like the character in the movie Terminator. Once that happens, we'll be slaves of Technology. Even our visits to the toilets will be monitored! On the up side, FBs from you will be much faster as you rightly point out. But hopefully they won't be blah blahs! If ever that happens, you'll still get the Best blah blah of the Month Award!

Dear Mr Cheeniya,
Internet is like a double edged sword. It depends on how we handle it. It is a boon if we use it in a proper manner. Albert Nobel's invention of dynamite, in the beginning was used for consrtuction and later it was used for destruction. Armies started using it for killing humans. Alfred Nobel invested in armaments companies and was conducting research in weapons technology. Though he wrote a will assigning all his wealth to award prizes to those who invented things which would benefit the humans and also for peace of the world, he was branded as the merchant of death. So technology depends on the end user.
Love,
PS

Dear Cheeniya,
I fully agree with the Title.....i am hundred percent sure that many of us can survive without many other things but Laptops with Internet connections ( that too high speed ones...he he) are a Must , a neccesity in our lives!
What a close escape you had acknowledging that your better half will be missed after a couple of days of freedom....that was a great FB u gave Kamalji!
And as to Kamaljis prompting, ....seems that no one has taken the bait....
.well i do agree that we ladies too have the same sentiments....a couple of days without our better halves is really WOW.....no cooking, cleaning etc...can watch all favourite old romantic movies, feeling all senti and weepy....eating popcorn and generally Letting ourselves loose...etc etc .....he he..... , but definetely not more than that he he.... we need them back , who else can we catch to do our nagging! So no escape and freedom anyway for both sides!
But all said and done, how can we survive without this Technological development.....great topic and great comparisons.....

| | Re: What will I do without you! Dear Cheeniya Sir This time I am late to give fb to your post. Though I do not have time but still could not stop here and give fb to your wonderful post. I also cant do without the internet. As usual a wonderful post form you. You must have read that I have become grandmother. I need your blessings for my grandchildren. My two daughters have adopted a baby girl each , so have been busy since 30th August. Though I dont get time but still try to log in and read the mails and log in to IL . I firmly believe that it is due to the good wishes of my friends here that I could become a grandmother. Internet is definitely a boon for me. Regards viji

Dear PS
Thank you for that great example of Alfred Nobel. It is one of the world's greatest ironies that a man who made enormous fortune by inventing a lethal explosive that killed thousands finally bequeathed all his wealth for the founding of Nobel Prizes which are awarded for people who strive ceaselessly to enhance the quality of human life. It includes the Nobel Prize for Peace too!
Take the nuclear technology. It certainly depends on the end user. A man with sinister intention can destroy the world with nuclear arsenal in a second. There is enough nuclear stock pile in the world to destroy it a hundred times over!
