It is strange that more peolpe tend to suffer from heads swollen with pride that from fingers swollen!
AC, with advancing age, as motor skills like dexterity start declining, rolling a roti may be difficult; even cutting vegetables may be tough - at such trying times, oats will be your saviour! Combine with fruits or nuts (are you reminded of monkey again because of the Mahanubhavar's comparison?) - lo, one meal is done.
It is a pity that none of you know how Mr Mahanubhavar relished my Strawberry Basundhi - his wife had promised me that she will never tell him what the contents were!
Forced to consume oats?? - ugh! What a statement!!

Dear Sudha,
Last week, his GD phoned up asking me for a second batch of Oats & dates cookies, since the first batch was fully relished & gobbled by her thatha. So I was busy baking yesterday.
Hence you are right in your statement
maybe cooking up something with Oats To Come back with bang( hopefully not on our heads!)
Ofcourse, I know it will be the eternal statement from Br M on the lines of
kuppura vizunthalum (vellai) meesaiyile maN ottalai.

Dear Lalith,
I am proud to be an oats addict, my cholestrol being taken care of, so perfectly.
Love,
Chithra.

Dear Chithra
When a person suspected of mental imbalance is produced before a 'Headshrinker' as Wodehouse calls the Specialists on Lunacy, he diagnoses the proplem with a single question, "Are you mad?" and if the patient says No, he'll be immediately admitted in the hospital. The implication of this is that all sane people know that they are mad but those who say that they are not mad, will be insane!
I am like Socrates. When he was condemned to die, he was given a cup of Hemlock poison. When someone asked him whether he knew what he was going to drink, all he asked was,'Does it make any difference?" So when that strawberry thingy was given to me courtesy Chitvish, I just consumed it philosophically without bothering to ask about the ingredients! I should thank you for this philosophical streak in me. Only after I started complementing your Gita posts, I became a Karmayogi. When I eat or drink something, I never apply my mind to the result of my action!

And Cheeniya when i said Great minds, i was trying to include my humble self with your esteemed self and not the other way around! and also that i thought abt that end quote around the same time you had mentioned in your reply FB!
But i did fool my friends here also with oats payasam and they did not realise! So Oats mahimai ingeyum paravarrthu!

Sariyana pottiya ille sariyana oattiya? I never expected my signature quote would win me so many friends in IL!
By the way, do you remember how Elisa Dolittle is trained by Prof.Higgins in English speaking in My Fair Lady? she is asked to keep a few marbles in her mouth and pronounce certain words. I think it would be better and safer to train the candidates with raw oats in the mouth instead of marbles!

Dear Cheeniya Sir,

My husband comes home for lunch every day. He was here an hour back and asked me - "You do not seem to be your usual self. Why are you like a yatha pragnai?" I simply stared at the Rambling page. In his family, Yatha Pragnai is used to refer to someone who has a seriously puzzled or dead blank look on their face.

There are some things in life that one should never attempt to understand. I was always poor in Math and Science. So till date I never attempted to understand what is inside an atom and what happens if electrons and neutrons collide or where in the world I am going to make use of Sine and Cos theta. In a way I have been protecting the inside matter of my head from injuries that can be caused from reading and trying to understand complicated matters.

Today, I read your rambling three times and did not understand anything much. I thought I would need to grow older to gain some wisdom and then read this again. But even our Kamalji's head is spinning and our Chithra is throwing oats at everyone around. Other young IL'ites are talking about Kilpauk and such. It was then that I saw your signature line. I have heard of people swooning after inhaling poisonous fumes. Never have I seen so many people losing their self after reading an article.

I do'nt seem to get much of the "viralluku yettha veekam", but I do understand - "mandaikku yettha gnanam."

For once my husband is right. I am indeed a Yatha Pragnai.

Oh my dear Nivedi
Your FB has really come as a shot in the arm for me! Nothing pleases a budding ameteur writer like me more than seeing his writings have the desired effect on his readers. This is the ultimate reward for all my toil as a writer!
When I came across that profound quote of Mark Twain, I made it my signature quote instantly. I knew that the only way to make everyone unravel this great riddle called life was to spread insanity! If madness could help exposing the complexity called life, why not I take it up straightaway I thought. This is the immediate outcome of that thought! When my thread could make a Yatha Pragnai of an illustrious person like you, my noble aim is accomplished.
A bit more on this madness! Do you know that one of the 63 prime Bhaktas of Lord Shiva called Nayanmars describes Lord Shiva as stark mad? Yes. Sundarar sang of Him 'Pitha Pirai soodi...' in total awe of his appearance with His matted hair wearing the Crescent and ash smeared all over His Body. Pitha means Mad or Insane. Now you can establish the link between madness and an understanding of this great riddle of life. Dont you now agree that I am on a holy mission in rambling thus about the swelling of the finger!?

Dear cheeniya sir,
YES I AM CLOSELY RELATED TO YOU ALL, THE HUMAN BEINGS!!!!!you some how put a link from your topic to me, my scientist Darwin who experimented hard to explain that i am your ancestor!!

Viralukku etha veekam is the topic. the history behind it amused me! a hilarious one. but the definition of dexterity.... oh no sir

kandu pidichutten! it is my understanding that when a finger swells up beyond a limit it ruins the movement of the whole hand that is how when a person spends beyond one's earnings it ruins the whole family's life. Ha Ha Ha periiiiiiya illiya sir?!!!!!!

Your style of writing-linking day today life topics or a common one with some history or science with hidden humour then and there- reminds me of our emminent, mind blogging writer Late Sujatha. it is like katrathum petrathum one of the popular columns of sujatha in ananda vikatan. Also your writing reminds me of another columnist V.Gangadhar who used to write "slice of life" in the Hindu on every alternate Sunday. His column would deal with interesting happenings of his life with a humourous touch.

i enjoyed all the threads by you including the one with escapades!!! Good musings!!

Sir yes sir one thread per week will do sir!!! we have to sit and read your musings, like this one, appuram koncham mandaya pichukanum..enna solla varar appadinu..then panna yosikanum iliya..that is why...

with regards,
geeth

I am very very fond of sujatha's writings. i am still not able to digest his demise. everytime he was admitted in Apollo i used to pray to God to Bless Sujatha "innum oru nootrandu vaazhiye" i couldnot control myself when i heard he was no more. to me he is still alive.....in his writings.

Dear Geeth
Your findings expressed in the following words
"kandu pidichutten! it is my understanding that when a finger swells up beyond a limit it ruins the movement of the whole hand that is how when a person spends beyond one's earnings it ruins the whole family's life. Ha Ha Ha periiiiiiya illiya sir?!!!!!!"
imply that you are the female version of Columbus! Enna oru aaraychi! Enna oru kandupidippu! Whether you are thrilled about this discovery or not, I am thrilled!

And thanks a million for your sweet words comparing me to Sujatha and Gangathar but all I would like to ask you is , Idhu konjam over illiya?!!!
Where are they and where am I? I am just a 'thondaradi podiyan!' Sujatha and me? Oh my God! Kadavulum manushanum onnaga mudiyuma penne?
