It is good to hear that at least in one household the idiot box is not much maligned but much 'benigned'! But that statement of yours about being 'out of touch' is a bit ambiguous. Are you out of touch with the soaps or soap ads? If it is former, then have you switched back to your toddler days using 'paitham maavu' and 'seekkai'? If it is latter, do you mean to say that you never get to see our soap ads from where you live? A great pity indeed that you are not privy to the beauty secrets of some of our most sweaty stars! Making dosa in microwave is not difficult at all. A lady in chennai makes them the traditional way and keeps them in microwave! Sri

| Okay, let me clarify, looks like I have left you in lurch here... Cheensaar.....where I live, I do not get to see much Tamil soaps, or else, catch me missing them??! Oh yes, I must not forget to thank you for the new usage of Micro...make dosas and keep them in there...for some kocha kocha dosais for afters?!...No thanks, I may as well give up on them:) L, Kamla |

That is very sacrilegious! You have no idea how your statement about 'kocha kocha dosais for afters' could hurt the sentiments of people who adore 'ericha curry'. It is a family tradition that ensures that unconsumed food is not thrown away but recyled along with the current residue. The whole concoction is brought to boiling point to ensure that the harmful bacteria perish! ![]() Sri

| Dear cheeniya sir, Sir,I have missed your writings for a long time. Now I am back to enjoy the same.I always feel comfortable and convenient to reply after reading your posts.Because I feel there are lots to be discussed, many incidents and instances to be shared and I was almost anxious and excited . I always make it a point to not miss any thing in my reply. That is it.Usually favourite and genuine heroines in cinema industry are admired as “Girl next door image”.This is because people could easily connect with them.I feel the same way with your writings. When I read and reach almost half ,I connect myself with the topic and I am totally involved in it even before completing the passage.Further I balance myself and read the entire thread.Stepping back to the topic, many of us skip the TV ads and we fail to notice and recognize many hidden good aspects of it.Especially during serials ,the blood pressure of many women![]() Yes the best way to impress men is by serving tasty dishes. But yet another possibility can happen. Many women in films, serials and even in reality say that no husband appreciates his wife even absent mindedly. They can instantaneously complain about them but never do the crime of encouraging. But still I admit that many problems were solved by filling the stomach whole heartedly. The major issue in most families is food. About clean shirts and washing too ,there are many ads which not only convey the facts on clean and tidy clothing but other things too as you said.In TV ads even the small routine chores has some message to say which we were completely unaware. Indeed TV is an idiot box but the good joke is we watch a film ,serial ,ad or anything completely and in the end we conclude that the same is a bore one, irritating ,slow moving and whatever words in the list which speak negative about it.We can neither avoid the idiot box nor prefer it. Thanks for sharing a thought provoking piece. BC

That was indeed a colourful reply, literally too! Before writing your FB, you seem to have mulled over every line that I wrote. What can be more satisfying to an ameteur writer than seeing such importance being given to what he writes? Thank you very much, BC The basic necessities of a human being are Roti, Kapda and Makhan (Food, clothing and shelter). From my experience I can tell you that these are the three things that endear a wife to her husband. Excellent food, well stacked wardrobe and a house kept spic and span are the three things that melt a man's heart like a block of ice on the Marina sands on a hot day! Imagine a man coming home after a gruelling day in office finds his house in a total mess, very hungry but what is produced before him for eating looks fishy and least appetising and there is nothing clean and fresh to wear after a good bath. How do you expect him to be full of love for his bitter, I mean better, half? Sri
