Chandigarh has made definite plans to promote tourism in the city. The administration has therefore developed

Chandigarh Tourism Action Plan (C-TAP) 2008

• Promoting Chandigarh as a World Class Tourism Destination.
• Promoting Chandigarh's Modem Heritage.
• Strengthening of the Collaboration with different Tour Operators & Membership in IATO (Indian Association of Tour Operators).
• Boosting the tourism information infrastructure by printing of pictorial/comprehensive booklets and brochures in different languages.
• Training Courses for the employees of Tourism establishments, hotels and taxi drivers.
• Maintaining a world class website for Chandigarh Tourism and updating it regularly. Enabling booking of CITCO & private Hotel rooms in the city online, through the website chandigarhtourism.gov.in
• Installing modem, attractive and professionally fabricated sign Boards & information boards at important locations in the city to facilitate easy access to information for tourists & visitors to the city. These would contain brief and relevant information on tourist places & other important locations of the city.
• Creating a ChandigarhPass on the pattern of the "LondonPass" in order to offer a wide range of facilities at tourist spots, like Rock Garden, Museums, Theaters etc.
• Promoting Entertainment in the city to make Chandigarh famous as a "City of Events".
• Boosting the Nightlife by promoting of "Film-evenings" (in collaboration with the Film Circle), open air concerts and different events like the "New Year Festival".
• Involving institutions like IHM, FCI, Colleges, School, etc. in a coordinated manner, to channelise the energies office youth for tourism promotion.
• Collaborating with embassies & missions of various countries on a constant basis to boost mutually important areas of the tourism sector.
• Setting up quickly and popularizing the Theme Park/Film City as Tourist interest location.
• Relaxing barriers & facilitating access to architectural wonders of the city like Vidhan Sabha, Secretariat, Open Hand monument etc. Setting up an information centre in the Capitol Complex.
• Promoting Golf Tourism & other sports as part of a visitor's itinerary in Chandigarh Collaboration with different Sports Federations & - academies.
• Promoting Wedding Tourism for foreign visitors.
• Inviting suggestions & comments for promoting tourism from Foreign missions, leading organizations, Hotel groups, airlines etc.
• Increasing the number of flights to Chandigarh and involving airlines in the promotional effort by encouraging them to offer packages for visitors in collaboration with CITCO & other hotels here.
• Improving the Taxi & Auto services within the city and ensuring that overcharging doesn't take place by publicizing uniform rates, promoting pre-paid services at all prominent locations and by periodical monitoring by Police & STA.
• Promoting Medical Tourism for foreign visitors.
• Promoting Scenic Walks in Chandigarh and cycling tours as popular concepts for promoting Chandigarh, as a different city.
• Collaborating with NGO's to promote "Responsible Tourism".
• Analyzing the requirements of different kinds of tourists and treating them separately as per their specific requirements i.e. Regional Tourists, National level tourists and International tourists.
• Constant research about Chandigarh in Web logs, Forums and Travel Guides.
• Carrying out more information Kiosks and making CDs of Chandigarh Tourism available at various prominent locations.
• Promoting Business Tourism by hosting different seminars, workshops and conferences.
• Promoting Weekend Tourism.
• Offering Packages with Railways from nearby states.
• Promoting Cinematic Tourism.
