Let me talk to the doctor too and look out for option of bf again.I feel i should atleast bf him at nights. he is one month old now...

Thank u all for suggesting me.

I remember the first few weeks, when K's latch was awful. No LC here, just the nurses who basically tweaked my nipples and forced it into the mouth... that's all the latching they "taught" me. Thankfully, once I was home, I could do my own research. One site that was my saviour was Dr Jack Newman. He has tonnes of videos about good latch, bad latch, nibbling, biting in newborns. Take a look. Once you get the good latch going, the soreness will go away.
Just make sure your baby is taking in more than just the nipple into his mouth. Does your baby's head align with your breast, his body turned towards you. Does he take in the areola too, more with the lower lip than the upper lip. Nose not touching your breasts. If the cradle position does not work for you, try football hold/cross cradle or even side lying (though I found the learning curve steeper with it). Bfing is a learnt thing for both you and the baby, but becomes effortless once the latch is corrected.

Ampu, I got these articles in the email today, thought some of these might be of help to you. I agree with what Krthika says, nipples can get sore if the baby has latching issues. When you go to see your doctor, see if you can also meet the hospital's Lactation Consultant. Most hospitals should have one. If not, then the other resource would be your local La Leche League. See if you can contact them, and usually they would come to your house and watch you feed the baby and then guide you accordingly. Hang in there. It does get better.

Hi All,

Thank you for the suggestion. I am trying out to BF too ...My nipple size seems to be big and thats making the boy difficult to suck. I feel bad when I see my baby suffer to get hold of the nipple. But still i will try out.

Thank you all for the materials and site details...let me check them and will let you know how it worked out.

Just a quick question for you, do your nipples look elongated after your LO unlatches? Given how dedicated you have been, it will really help for you to see someone in real life... LLL is a great idea. Put your LO to your breast for 5 minutes, if the latch is not comfortable and if your LO fusses, then give him the bottle and try after latching again after 30 min... I can understand how difficult it must be for you to manage on your own there! Hugs

Thank you all for ur valuable suggestions. I started BF again and looks like it is going to work out well. Only thing is he is able to latch properly when we sleep and bed but when I sit on chair and try its being difficult. Will try more and hope it too works.

I am planning to continue with pumping for once a day and bottle feed him with that so that he will not forget bottle feeding too and i will not have trouble if i am getting back to work again.

Thanks once again for the articles you provided.....will keep updated on things going around.

Try a breastfeeding pillow like Boppy, or just a plain pillow will work too. I still use one of the throw pillows under Riya's head while I am sitting and feeding her. Boppy is a great invention, it can be used for breastfeeding and is very comfy but can also be used for baby's tummy time, as a support in the back when the baby starts sitting. Lot of dads that I know use it too while bottle feeding the baby. I loved mine.

Ampu - A pillow can really help support the baby in the first couple of months. I just used an ordinary pillow so i dont know abt the Boppy but I've read many ggod things about it online. personally i found the latch on the right side very difficult (i'm right-handed), the left was so easy. But keep trying and you do get the knack after a bit.

Thank you all for suggesting. I am using boppy pillow ...slowly we both are getting used to latching process. My nipples are becoming sore and I am using cream for it.

Hope things will become more better.

Ampu, let me inflict one more article on you, if you have not already read it. Sore nipples.
Do you have problems with sore nipples when you pump too. It is a good thing that you are pumping one feed for the bottle and a great thing your LO seems to not have nipple confusion. Just ensure you use a good pump. I started off with something terrible (I forget the brand name) had severe nipple soreness for long till I switched to medela.
Why not take a break while you are nursing your LO and stretch your legs, if sidelying is the only thing that is working for him right now. It will be matter of time before he figures it out.
Hugs, you're doing great!

Hi Tikka,

nice to see one more article from you. I am using the medala pump only ..Yah its true that it will take time for him and me to learn the process. I am happy that i am just not pumping milk but giving him bf too..that will not decrease my milk supply...hope i will feed him with my milk for as long as possible.

Thank you
