| | Used breast pumps can be re-used?
Hello everybody,
I used Avent ISIS 2.5yrs back, can I sterilize and use the same for my LO now? I intend to pump henceforth, to maintain/increase my supply. Please suggest me, whether i can use the old one or go for a fresh one?

It should be fine, you may need to replace valves, it has any to ensure good suction.
I am holding on to my medela in the hope, some day, some day... I will be ready to have another baby

Tikka,
I just re-opened the pack after all these yrs... I am seeing a slight pale yellowish coloration in the suction and valve areas.. though I have a replacement valve, the suction am lil doubtful... Also I heard that except Medela, all others cannot be re-used. My friend told, in kellyMom, its mentioned... Am yet to explore it further.
BTW how much does a fresh medela cost? Which model do you have? Single or double? Avent is a single/manual pump.

LOL, I know I read a lot in KM, but I cant remember things off the bat. DAMN PMS. Silicone that is used does discolor a bit. I have a clear plastic shield in the medela harmony (single/manual roughly Rs 2500) that is still clear. The silicon soft shield has discoloured like you said.
My understanding is that breastpump is a single-user device. As in you can use it again and again, as long as you want, but lending, re-selling may not be a bright idea given health concerns. I have no idea what is the use-by dates for breast horns, etc. I was told to replace the shell if I see physical damage like a scratch. Do you think you can perhaps get just the horns here?
p.s. more info http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/d...k_FAQs&slg=BRP for avent.

Latha, as long as it is functional you should be able to use it. Like Tikka says, just replace the accessories. I donated my Medela after I was done with my first one since I thought I would not have any more. And so for my second I had to buy again.
The single user-restriction is due to health concerns such as HIV. As long as you are the user, I don't see any issue in using again, provided it works. My SIL tried to re-use her 6-year old Medela for her second one. And it broke down so she had to buy a new one.

Vidyaa | Vidyaa, Tikka,
Am getting mixed opinions from diff people, about re-using old pumps. Planning to use it once today or tomo, see how it works... If I feel thats fine, then I wud go ahead and use it. Otherwise wud get Medela.
