Unhappy Please advise .. my baby's buttocks are becoming red

Hello ILs,

We are facing a problem. My baby's buttocks are becoming red. In the initial days, we used diapers given at hospital. So we thought because of diaper its happening like that. After that we shifted to cotton clothes tied as diapers (as adivsed by my grand mother). Even now they are becoming red. I am applying Johnson's powder and Johnson's baby cream but no use.

My LO is not feeling any discomfort because of that but I want some solution for this. Please help Ladies.

Also, even when the cloth is wet with her piss, she sleeps happily. When we check and try to remove, she cries as her sleep is disturbed. Really its a big challenge for us in this regard. Please help as how to take care of her in this regard.

Thanks in advance,
deepchiran.

It is very likely JandJ product is causing the problem, some children are sensitive to it. dear son was. If you do want use a barrier like coconut oil after you dry her up. If you like vaseline would also act as a barrier.
When we were kids, they used to use an old dhoti or saree and put it under the baby. When your child is that young, you can use ready made cotton nappies, easy to put on and off. Of course, they do not work well when the child is older.

Hi Friend,

My baby also had the same problem. Everytime when I change the diapers I would rub the coconut oil along her buttocks which turns red and I also apply to her tigh lines. My baby is chubby. Once I started using the coconut oil it prevented from any red marks. Do keep the buttock dry and apply coconut oil more frequent when it is very reddish. Hope this will help to ease your baby's problem.

Cheers

Himalaya's diaper rash cream is another alternative.

Hi Deepa,

You can apply vaseline on the buttocks. My DD used to have diaper rash on the sides, it was much less after I applied vaseline. Now for the winter I am using Mother Care baby lotion as suggested by my colleagues and it is working fine. Avoid wet clothes, you need to change immediately. The day the buttocks are red avoid any nappy just wrap in plain cloth. This may soothe your baby and get back to normal the next day.

J & J products are not working with my baby too. You can apply some powder and vaseline on the diaper area before putting the diaper, this can prevent your DD from getting the rash.

deepchiran,
first of all stop using powder(talc is a no no!)
secondly use your expressed breastmilk on baby's but... it is very soothing!
make sure she isnt in her wet nappy for too long, using himalaya or mothercare nappy rash cream...

also make sure the nappies you use are washed clean of any detergent residue that might be the culprit!

Deepachiran,
I seldom visit the Infants board but had to respond to your post. I had the same issue with my LO.
Diaper rash occurs because of wetness but mine was being frequently changed and still had a rash. I changed her diaper brand, tried cloth diapers but all in vain. I never used powder for her and used Johnson's baby soap to wash her every time she wet her diaper. As a last resort, I stopped using the Johnson's soap and switched to Aveeno - fragrance free infants soap (not sure if it available here) and almost instantly saw a change. I was also asked not to wash frequently with soap(warm water alone or fragrance free wipes are sufficient). I also gave her some diaper free time to air her bottoms. Generally for 1hr a day. I also used a diaper rash cream regularly for a couple of weeks to cure out the rash completely. With cloth nappies, please do take extra care to make sure she is not staying wet(since the nappies are not as absorbent as the diapers and may increase the rash).
Even later, as a toddler she had frequent rashes. Again, I changed her panty brand, got her to air but nothing worked. Later, I realized it was my detergent. I started using fragrance free detergent for all undies since then and thankfully, now she does not have the issue. As the previous poster has mentioned, try rinsing the cloth nappies a couple of times in warm water after your detergent wash to see if that helps.
.

Smile Re: Please advise .. my baby's buttocks are becoming red

Hi ILadies,

Thanks for your replies and advices.

I will stop the powder first then. I got Himalaya diaper rash cream yesterday. Applied it a couple of times and its showing quite a good result.

We are using cotton clothes only as my grandma is not allowing us to use diaper. As a result, even when LO pisses when she is sleeping, I could not change the cloth as she gets disturbed in sleep. Thats why she is staying in that wet cloth for some time. May be this is also the reason. What should I do in this case? Please advice.

Also, if any one is using Johnson milk bath, please let me know how is the product?

Thanks,
Deepchiran.

Hi Deepachiran,

You must change the wet clothes. I have also changed my DD's clothes. After knowing that the child is sleeping with the wet clothes, it is not fair for the child's sleep sake to leave the child in wet clothes. Most babies would get up if they feel the wetness.

I am not using Johnson's milk bath. May be you can wait for some replies. Also type skin deep and check for allergies with the product.

We are regular uses of J7J's milk bath and DS is fine with it (been using it for over a year now). But then DS is fine with every skin product (J&J and others) I have tried on him until now.
