Healthy snack ideas while nursing

    Hi Friends,

    I'm nursing my LO (6.5 months) and taking care of him alone at home. After nursing, I feel extremely hungry which results in eating all the junk like muruku, etc.. When I was at my mom's place, I didn't feel this much hungry. And I'm unable to get satisfied with milk/horlicks with milk.. I want to have something solid like sundal.

    Can you provide me some healthy snack ideas please?

    Also, I have to prepare the snacks before 8.30 am and it should be good till night. If I can prepare in the weekend n keep it in fridge, it will be great.

    Minapa sunni is THE snack all new moms are given to improve recovery and health and energy.
    Dry roast udad dal till pink. Let cool. Send to mill for fine powdering or run it in mixie.. Wait for sometime till jar cools if jar becomes hot.
    Powder sugar or jaggery separately and mix thoroughly.
    Use 1 cup dal + 1/2 cup sugar/jaggery - if not sweet you can add or minus according to your taste.

    Keep this powder in airtight container. The powder will easily last 1 month.
    Take 2-3 tbsp powder enough for 3-4 days.
    Melt ghee, and mix with powder and make laddoos.
    It will stay in airtight box for a week.

    Try variations adding roasted and roughly ground peanuts, badam, walnuts, kaju, pista, kismis etc whatever works for you :)

    Sundal - you can soak, boil and freeze the beans over weekend.
    Freeze in separate portions (check chitvish jiffy cooking or tips tips tips thread)
    Thaw 1cup overnight in fridge and do the tadka in the morning - will be good for the day.

    You can take banana and hand full of nuts like almond or pistachios. Drink a tall glass of water after the feed, sometimes we mistake hunger a d thirst. You can try cheese slice, oats etc

    How about fresh cut carrots/cucumbers/cherry tomatoes and broccoli with a dip? Dip can be yogurt with lemon juice/salt/pepper or hummus or store bought dip. Make 5 bags of snack mix like this and keep it in the fridge. Just take one bag a day and use it.

    Yes!! I used to keep a bottle of water next to me while BFing!!
    And finish the whole 1 litre by the time DS would finish!!! I would feel extremely thirsty!

    Take fresh dates ( the plump ones like mejdool )remove the pit and replace with a couple of almonds. Instant energy boost esp while breastfeeding. No prep or cooking required.

    I'm finally able to get my stamina back with the help of your healthy snack ideas..

    These are the snacks I'm having nowadays..

    Fruits - Banana, chickoo, custard apple n apple
    Sundal
    Minapa sunni untalu
    Carrot sticks with a dip
    Dates, almonds n raisins
    And finally WATER, WATER, WATER..

    @hrastro, I prepared minapa sunni untalu and it was awesome. It really gives me a lot of energy..

    Planning to prepare hummus this weekend.
