Default Complicated Words and their Meanings

Hi Everyone!

I was wondering what will you do if you come accross some words which you dont understand while reading?

My way of approach has changed as when I was in teens I use to note it down and write the dictionary meaning for the whole list of words.
Now I dont have so much patience and I just go with the flow and understand what the author meant

what will you do? and what is good to do?Please share your experiences...

Hi Ani,

I used to do the same things as you do - earlier I used to make a point to read the meanings - but now I can either guess its meaning from the context or let it pass (well sometimes these words are just descriptions of things that are not very imp to the story.. U understand na?)...

But I think I do have these words stored somewhere in my sub-conscious mind - because the next time I read the word somewhere, I either ask my dad or friends about the word and if that fails I use the dictionary..

I have changed my trend though, I use the wikipedia now-a-days !!(literally..!! it is so much more advanced that you not only know the meaning but also end up learning a whole lot of things related to it.! )

Gayathri

Hi Ani,
I agree with you and Gayathri. I used to refer the dictionary when I came across a new word which I wasnt aware of. These days I read online, so use the web for finding the meaning and also the synonyms and antonyms. This way I am learning more than one word.
Hope this method will be of help to you as well.

Hi Gayathri, Anu

Thanks for your responses! I agree with you all too...Wiki is really helpful for lot of things.
I usually google the word to find the meaning if its something complicated and cannot proceed further without knowing, but otherwise as Gayathri said will go with the context.
I will start using some new words while talking by end of that book if the word is mentioned more than couple of times
