Established fact : We love our books and we love quoting from it to enthrall others. A few captivating words strung together is all it takes to love or ditch a book. We scrabble for a piece of paper to jot it down or highlight it on our e Reader. Shake your literary plumes, dazzle us and Quote the quote that you love the most.

Just one clause: The quotes must be from a book (Book lovers forum- duh!). So Share the quote/ quotes, the author and the name of the book.

    To quote some...

“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.”
    - Harper Lee (To Kill a Mockingbird)

“What is life but a series of inspired follies? The difficulty is to find them to do. Never lose a chance: it doesn’t come every day.”
    ― George Bernard Shaw (Pygmalion)

“The best teacher is experience and not through someone's distorted point of view”
― Jack Kerouac ( On The Road)

Another nice thread Priya. I had 2 big notebooks of my favorite quotes from book during school & college days. But when I read this thread I can't neither remember the quotes nor where those notebooks are.

Now don’t make fun of me guys but the first ones that came to my mind are from Harry Potter, by J.K.Rowling:

    1. "It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."
    2. "After all this time? Always.

The second one does not sound like a quote but my heart melts every time I read or hear those words.

Few of my other favorites are from poems and Thoreau’s but not sure if they can be mentioned here. Will add more later as and when I remember.

Thanks CB, I think any quote from the world of "print" is acceptable here, just no to speeches, so please do share.

Sometimes the rarest of gems can be hidden deep in the dust... so Harry Potter too can be a genius.

Here are some quotes I found in some chicklits that I've read.. now who said these books can't be life savers!!

“Life would be a lot easier if conversations were rewindable and erasable, like videos. Or if you could instruct people to disregard what you just said, like in a courtroom.”

“Rule of life. If you bother to ask someone’s advice, then bother to listen to it.”

“Shopping is actually very similar to farming a field. You can't keep buying the same thing, you have to have a bit of variety. Otherwise you get bored and stop enjoying yourself.” -Sophie Kinsella ( Confessions of a Shopaholic)

“Maybe, sometimes, it's easier to be mad at the people you trust because you know they'll always love you, no matter what.” - Ann Brashares ( The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants)

    More gems to come.........

    Alice in Wonderland
    Alice in Wonderland.jpg
    ---

Alice asked, "Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to walk from here?"

"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.

"I don't care much where-" said Alice.

"Then it doesn't matter which way you walk," said the Cat.

"- so long as I get somewhere," Alice added as an explanation.

"Oh, you're sure to do that," said the Cat, "if you only walk long enough."

    --

Quite a powerful conversation. If you don't know where you are going, all roads lead to the destination.

    Good thread

    where do I start

“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.”
― Oscar Wilde the source is one of his essays soul of man under socialism. Though it looks a dry subject quite interesting take on altruism and definitely applies even in present. A ver profound one. I try not to just exist:thumbsup.

"And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” Feels like srk dialogue?? But it is by Paul coelho in "The Alchemist"

“Have you ever lost someone you love and wanted one more conversation, one more chance to make up for the time when you thought they would be here forever? If so, then you know you can go your whole life collecting days, and none will outweigh the one you wish you had back.”
Mitch albom in For one more day

“All endings are also beginnings. We just don't know it at the time.” Mitch albom in
The five people you meet in heaven.

“You don't love someone because they're perfect, you love them in spite of the fact that they're not.” Jodi piccoult in "my sister's keeper"

this is one again is from jodi's Mercy-
“You know it's never fifty-fifty in a marriage. It's always seventy-thirty, or sixty-forty. Someone falls in love first. Someone puts someone else up on a pedestal. Someone works very hard to keep things rolling smoothly; someone else sails along for the ride.”

“Maybe some people just aren't meant to be in our lives forever. Maybe some people are just passing through. It's like some people just come through our lives to bring us something: a gift, a blessing, a lesson we need to learn. And that's why they're here. You'll have that gift forever.” A beautiful quote for life from The Gift by Danielle steel

And another person whose novels were our regular fares in hostel during college sidney sheldon
“You have two choices. you can keep running and hiding and blaming the world for your problems, or you can stand up for yourself and decide to be somebody important.” Nothing lasts for ever.

“To be successful you need friends and to be very successful you need enemies" I think this is other side of midnight.

Now now I don't want to hog this thread...

hugh prather, a very popular self-help author, whose books i don't see these days. i was first introduced to this book at my boss home as a coffee table piece some 20 years ago.

i did not actually think it was a self-help book then. little did i know what it was, but was fascinated by the style and the look of the book. it was a little different. not sure if the same style is used now or if his books are published. but i loved his quotes a lot. infact some of his quotes are etched in memory..

so today it is all from hugh prather's books..a note to myself and some more.

A note to myself, My struggle to become a better person..

“It's not that we fear the place of darkness, but that we don't think we are worth the effort to find the place of light.”

“Today I acknowledge that I am not in position to judge what mistakes anyone is making or what lessons anyone needs to learn. I don’t know how far someone has come or when that person will have a breakthrough, I simply don’t know what other people should be doing. But when I think I do know, I clearly am not doing what I should be doing, which is taking responsibility for my own life.”

    “Next time I will ..."
"From now on I will ..."
    - What makes me think I am wiser today than I will be tomorrow?”
    - something i can always relate to..

“I sometimes react to making a mistake as if I have betrayed myself. My fear of making a mistake seems to be based on the hidden assumption that I am potentially perfect and that if I can just be very careful I will not fall from heaven. But a 'mistake' is a declaration of the way I am, a jolt to the way I intend, a reminder I am not dealing with the facts. When I have listened to my mistakes I have grown.”

a very brutal reality as it was how i always think about me when i make mistakes..and learning from them..ofcourse i have not stopped making mistakes nor have i stopped learning and growing..they seem to be a life long process..

something that is so easy to understand yet so difficult in practice..
By approaching my problems with "What might make things a little better?" rather than "What is the solution?" I avoid setting myself up for certain frustration. My experience has shown me that I am not going to solve anything in one stroke; at best I am only going to chip away at it.” from i touch
the earth, the earth touches me..

“Egos clash. That's the nature of egos.

Treat these outbursts as sneezing fits.”

"There are only three things you need to let go of: judging, controlling, and being right. Release these three and you will have the whole mind and twinkly heart of a child." - the little book of letting go..
