Ponniyin Selvan

I am so happy to see that the readers group of ponniyin selvan is becoming more and more big.

when the original thodar was published in kalaki, the drawings were penned by Oviyar, Maniyam (Not ma se- ma se is actually the son of the great oviyar maniyam) ; I read the novel first when my mom brought that original novel collection from a library. the sketches were pretty wonderful. insted describing them, one shd hav their own experience by viewing it themselves.

then i read it many many times. it was re published in kalki again during 1989 - 90s with the same maniyam sketches.

once again it was re published in kalki during 1998 - 1999 but with Oviyar padma vaasan's sketches. I could collect this entire novel only during this period.

this novel is a pokkisham for me and same feeling many of the other readers will also have.

also note, nadipurathu nayagi was written by another tamil writer, Vikraman.

also one can read another novel - Udayar, by writer balakumaran which describes the periya kovil construction.

also u can also read - kaanthalur vasanthakumaran kadai by writer - Amarar.Sujatha

I am a newbie and when I saw the forum book lovers, I immediately did a search for ponniyin selvan

I read this book (series) maybe around 3 years back. I remember I started reading it as I was sick and was unable to go to office. I had taken leave for 2 days. But I started this book, simply could not put it down and hence took the whole week off and finished all 6 books by 5 days

Loved the narration!! I usually do not read these type of "sarithiram" stories, but man, this book did change my readings!!

I read sivakamiyin sapadham a month after I read this one; That was also Brilliant!! (I have the e-book of sivakamiyin sapadham...if anyone wants it do message me!)

I read Ponniyin selvan during my school days.We used to take the book from library.Then myself and my brother used to fight with each other on who should read it first .
I have read many times. After we have gone to college my father bought all the volumes. wheneveer I go home I start reading from any page.
I 've also read Sivagamiyin sabadham and most of Kalki's novels.
The depiction is so beautiful about Kodiyakarai in PS, once I made a trip to visit that place.
All the characters starting from Vandhiyadevan, Rajaraja cholan(Arulmozhi), azhvarkadiyan, the list goes on and on everything comes before me alive whenever I start thinking about PS.
Happy to see so many people fascinated about PS.

I am mad of Ponniyin Selvan. I would have read it nearly 50 times. Still even now If i have to read it I will simply love to read it. All the characters will live with us. Many of you refer Vandiyathevan, Arulmozhivarman, Nandini etx, only. What about Ponguzhali and the Kodikarai? When I went to Nagapattinam last year my mind was looking around whether Ponguzhali will be there. Such a wonderful
novel/ Simply supurb. Wow what an authour Kalki was? GREAT.

I recently joined in IL. As I went thru the forums I saw Book lovers and searched for Ponniyin Selvan. Becos I am mad about Ponniyin Selvan and I have read it more than 15 times. I feel myself a part of it. I am very happy to see lots of people love it even after 58 years of its publication.

Vandhiyathevan, Alwarkkadiyan, Arulmozhi varman, Kundhavai....all are my favourites...

Amarar Kalki is aptly called Amarar becos he always lives with such a wonderful contribution "PONNIYIN SELVAN"! Hats off to him
