Finest Blog Contest - Feb 2009 - Winner! - Click here for details.

Recently I bought a watch for my daughter. It is with stone decorations and looked very beautiful. I want it to gift her, once she got her Half yearly exam marks.

She got the Ist Rank, so I decided to hand over the watch to her. It was in my hand bag only. But when I searched I couldnt find it.

So, one sunday I decided to clean my hand bag. You may be surprised to note that it took more than 5 hours to clean the hand bag.

The bag has 3 compartments and 2 outer small compartments.

First the 2 outer compartments - It is filled with coins, bindi, some bus tickets (only 25 tkts), train tickets, my address diary etc.

Then came the 1st inner compartment. It is the bakthi compartment. So many sloka books, koil prasadam (vibuthi, kumkum, thulasi etc), small photos of Lord, paper cuttings of temple maps, Darshan timings of surrounding temples noted in a piece of paper etc.

Then the 2nd compartment is a personal compartment. It is purely mine. My pay slips (almost 1 year pay slips), my expenses diary, the recently bought sari bills (thank god, my hubby is not searching this. Otherwise he will cry that he would have built a house with this amount), fairness tips, tips on reducing the weight - the tips are in the hand bag only - not even for a day I had followed that, my relatives contact nos., my college photo, my family photo etc.

Third compartment is a social compartment. Things which cant be put in the first 2 compartments will be accommodated here. 2 magazines, recipe papers (mostly Chitvish), grocery bills, embroidery patterns, fashion jewellery patterns, my son's school report the list goes endless.

Apart from this I have 4 purses - one to keep the main cash, one to keep the office keys, one for petty expenses (only rupees), other small one to keep the changes..

Oh!! I have a mini bag to keep my tiffin box and water bottle.

After a search in all the above, I found so many things - a kajal, nail cutter, my son's building set parts (I dont know how it found a position in my bag), a small laddu (god only knows how old it is?), blouse bit (I know it is on January 14th - my mother gave it for Pongal. for the past one month it is in my bag)...

My son said "Amma please be careful. even a small anaconda can be in your bag"

It is true only. Atlast, I found the watch for my daughter. I also thanked her for giving me an opportunity to clean my hand bag.

My hubby said it is not a hand bag it is a hold-all.

    Dear Andal,
That was hilarious post from you. It is not your Hold all. It is your treasure trove. You could have attached the photo of your trove for our viewing pleasure.
I wonder how you carried the weight everyday. (A good weight lifting exercise ...yeh?) Check yourself in the mirror your arm muscles should've tightened dear.

    Enjoyed it. Keep it up.

    small mercies

    dear
that was a hilarious one, esp coz i was recollecting , all similar one's that my bag has. there were so many similarities that if i tell of them they'll exceed the word limit.Big Laugh
but i differ only as i have a toddler, for whom i keep a dress, a diaper, apack of biscuits, a few ballons- which become a toy when filled, and as i always keep thread( you can take the tip) and needle, so that can be tied to the balloon.
yes and also a few toys as what ever he has when we go out later finds place in the bag, and stays indefinitely. bonk

    Dear Andal,

I thought you are giving a list of what is there in my hand bag. Add to that one mini makeup kit (incase I happen to go for an Ilite meet from office)

Your son's statement of Anaconda was quite hilarious... and your hubby hold all..Big Laugh

Andal you penned it very well... small things but made an interesting read.
