| | dear gishashyjith, one has to read more books on hinduism and we get plenty of online studies too, once u develop that you will be able to answer these things easily, i keep searching in google and various things pop up, which i find interesting i share here..like wise read a lot and i am sure you will understand your roots well and will be proud to be a part of the mahasamudhram called hinduism..sunkan |

| | Very nice. Did not get a chance to go through the whole thing, though: my baby is tugging at my legs. I have a doubt. If our Gothram translates to our ancestry from a rishi, how is it that people from different sects say Iyers/Iyengars/Mudaliars/Chettiars all have a common Gothram between them? This has been puzzling me for quite a while now. It would be great if you knew the answer. |

| | dear diva, this started after the rig veda period, where sects were divided, and then came the vaishnava and shiva altogether a different subject here, one has to go through many manuscripts pertaining to this to bring forward what you ask...this is purely for he brahmin and iyer and iyengar are also brahmins following the shiva andvaishnava in their practise of worship..sunkan |
