Verse 46 - Meaning:
Q:Who (ko) attains the highest levels in life ? (vardhate)
A:That one who is endowed with true humility. (viniitah).
Q:Who (ko) is subject to downfall ? (vaa hiiyeta)
A:The proud and arrogant ones. (yo drptah)
Q:Who (ko) deserves to be dis-trusted ? (na-pratyetavyo)
A:That one (yas-ca) who is a habitual liar. (anrtam saasvat).
Verse 47 - Meaning:
Q:When can (kutra) telling an untruth (anrte) be considered not a sin ? (apya-paapam)
A:When that is the one and only way (yaccoktam) to protect one's Dharma. (dharma-rakshaartham).
Q:What is (ko) Dharma?
A:The traditions (yah-sishtaanaam) that one's respected ancestors (abhimato) have observed. (nija-kuliinaanaam)
Verse 48 - Meaning:
Q:What (kim) is the source of strength (balam) for a Saadhu ?
A:God. (daivam)
Q:Who is (kah) a Saadhu?
A:That one who is ever (sarvadaa) satisfied.(tushttah)
Q:What (kim) is one's Fate? (daivam)
(Note: Here, "daivam" is used to connote the controlling force or power in one's life)
A:One's own meritorius actions. (yat-sukrtam)
Q:Who (kah) is to be identified as one with meritorius actions to his credit ? (sukrti)
A:That one who has the approval and admiration (slaaghyate) of virtuous men. (yah-sadbhih)
Verse 49 - Meaning:
Q:Who (kim) is the real friend (mitram) and well-wisher of a householder (Griha-medhinas-ca) ?
A:The faithful wife. (bhaaryaa)
Q:Who (ko) is a householder (grhii ca) ?
A:He who performs the ordained sacrifices or the yajnas.(yo yajate)
Q:What (ko) are Yajnas ?
A:What is prescribed in the Srutis or the Vedas (yat-srutyaa-vihitah)as a duty (nrnaam)for man's higher evolution. (sreyaskaro)
Verse 50 - Meaning:
Q:Whose (kasya) sacred ritual (kriya) will be fruitful ? (hi-saphalaa)
A:Of that one (yah) who follows the rules of ritualistic purity (punar-aacaaravaan) and who is a virtuous person. (sistah)
Q:Who (kah) is a Sistah ?
A:He who structures his life strictly in accordance with the Vedic injunctions. (yo veda-pramaanavaan)
Q:Who (ko) should be considered dead even while living ? (hatah)
A:One who has abandoned (bhrashtah) the duties (kriya) ordained by the Vedas.
