Jinnah triggered the creation of the nation hardly realizing what he was doing (he is believed later to have bitterly regretted this) and now the Bhuttos, Zias, Sharifs and Musharafs have done all they could to carry on this episode. Each of them have swindled the nation as much as they could, as all politicians always do ! bonk

Bhutto senior was accused of rigging elections to get people out of his way before Zia stepped in with the army force and got him hanged. Then Zia continued this tradition with Big Brother's (US) full support, but he became such a menace that people say BB finally got rid of him (in a plane crash). The came madame Benazir (darling of the west as she is called) who is said to have imported 6000 litres of Evian mineral water/day, using the good govt money for her personal use, among many other fancy things she did with her husband, except for proper governance.

Enter Sharif for a short period who loyally continued the traditions of his predecessors, before Mush decided that it was time to knock him off.

Mush became a great friend of the US, extracted as much $$ from them as possible for his fight against terrorism (Please see attachment for a good pictorial description). Its said that he siphoned most of the money of BB provided for the 'War Against Terror' to sponsor the education of his children in the US and buy/build nuclear weapons for use against India, of course.

And now that Benazir has been laid to rest with her father and brothers, the remaining players left in the field have no clue when & who is going to knock them off, but still they would like to take a shot in the meantime. Add to this confusion all the 'Jehadis', 'Taliban', 'Al Qaeda' and any other communal irritant in that region and your picture of democracy in Pak is complete.

I wonder what the present elections to going to give the Pakistani people ? Another 6 months of 'democracy' before one of the communal irritant or the army steps in to repeat all that I in the para above. Really, the Pak people deserve better than this !

Folks out there, what do you think ? Do share your thoughts with me.

    Hi sumeru,

Good topic. it is said that nehru, gandhi regretted the partition, (I believe to have read that if they knew he has so less a time to live, jinnah died of lung cancer within a year..).

I feel PAkistanis , have learnt to live with the upheavels. The holes dug by them in the form of nurturing talibans, jihads to hurt others look gaping ugly at them now.

AS of today zardari and sharif join hands to swindle $$ (form government). who know who will try to kill whom... I don't think we need 6 more months to know the outcome??

    Hi Shanvy,

Thanks for your comments. Absolutely agree with you, even I have read somewhere that due to the tug of war between Jinnah and Nehru as to who would be the PM of free India, Gandhi was forced to partition India.

I feel that we relate to any country based on the public behaviour, policies of their leaders, which for most of the time never reflects the mood or mandate of the people of that country. But, unfortunately, all the time, its the public that takes the hit for the mistakes of leaders.

    Hi Sunkan,

Yes, you are right, it seems that the future of Pak & Afgan is held tightly in the hands of extremists.

Yes the people deserve better than what the politicians are shoving upon them but who elected these politicians in the first place?? Can any body imagine the mentality of people who are compelled to vote based on family lineage rather than what is actually good for them??(PPP with Bhutto's husband in the lead, eventaually will pass on the crown to son). Our own example in our motherland does not fare any better. As long as there is a mob mentality and electorates electing people on the strenght of how much they are spending to buy votes and not on the strength of their political agenda and good policies, the political game of taking people for a ride will continue.
