கற்றனைத் தூறும் அறிவு

மணலிலே கிணறு தோண்டும் அளவிற்கு நீரூற்றுப் பெருகுவது
போல நூல்களை ஆழ அணுகிப் படிக்கும் தோறும் அறிவு
பெருகும்
The deeper a sand well is dug,the more freely its water flows.
Even so,the deeper a man'slearning, the greater is his wisdom.

397.யாதானும் நாடாமல் ஊராமால் என்னொருவன்
சாந்துணையுங் கல்லாத வாறு
yaadhanum Naadamal ooraamaal ennoruvan
ChaNthuNaiyung kallaadha vaaRu

கற்றுத் தெளிந்தவனுக்கு எல்லா நாடும், எல்லா ஊரும்
அவனதேயாம் என அறிந்தும் ஏனோ இறக்கும் வரை ஒருவன்
கல்லாது இருக்கிறான்?
Knowing that knowledge makes all nations and neighborhoods
one's own, how can a man stay untutored until his death?

398.ஒருமைக்கண் தான் கற்ற கல்வி ஒருவர்க்கு
எழுமையும் ஏமாப் புடைத்து
orumaikkaN thaan kaRRa kalvi oruvarkku
ezhumaiyum emaap pudaithu

ஒரு பிறவியிலே ஒருவன் கற்ற கல்வி அவனைத் தொடர்ந்து வரும்
ஏழு பிறவியிலும் சென்று உதவும்
The learning a man secures in one birth
will secure his well-being in seven.

399.தாமின் புறுவது உலகின் புறக் கண்டு
காமுறுவர் கற்றறிந் தார்
Thaamin puRuvathu ulagin puRak kaNdu
kaamuRuvar kaRRaRIN thaar

தாம் இன்புறுவதற்கு ஏதுவான கல்வியினால் உலகமும் இன்புறுதல்
கண்டு கற்றோர் அதனிலும் மேலும் இன்புறுவர்.
When the learned discern that the learning which delights them
also delights the world, they love learning all the more.

400.கேடில் விழுச்செல்வம் கல்வி யொருவற்கு
மாடல்ல மற்றை யவை
kedil vizhuchchelvam kalvi yoruvaRkku
maadalla maRRai yavai

ஒருவன் கற்ற கல்வி அழிவற்ற அருஞ் செல்வம் ஆகும். ஏனைய
பணமும் நிலமும் செல்வங்களாகா.
A man's learning is an imperishable and precious wealth.
No other possession is as golden.
